So for all practical purposes, Messi with Barca needs to be sorted first, his dad and agent is in Argentina as I type this ... so even the earliest that happens is towards the end of this new week .... maybe Wed/Thu/Fri ... and that might only be first round of talks then there'd be back and forth ... so if all goes whichever way either Barca saying they'd sell or saying to go to court or whatever is probably going to come out earliest next weekend or Mon/Tue (7/8 Sept) ... then City would come into play and add another week for that so earliest we're looking at if all goes quick and "moves along" then it's around the weekend after that 12/13 Sept that we might have some signs of oh yes it's finally happening and then the official announcement on Monday 14th or 15th Sept ... that's the EARLIEST possible looking at how things stand ...

Thread would be 4000 pages by then ...

Nah, get the exit sorted and the CFG-messi agreement is signing documents already shared and agreed in principle.

It’s taking The Barca board through their own version of the five stages of grief that’s taking time. They have tried ignoring it, got angry, will cry and not talk to anyone, then sulk and finally work out how bad things are.

Today is big for them, they tried to hold him to appear at training through the tebes statement, if he doesn’t turn up (which he won’t) they then HAVE to talk.

They don’t want to lose face, they will, but will start talking tomorrow, deals being leaked Wednesday and from there.......

This is going to drag on all the way until the deadline isn’t it? And possibly even beyond that as he could still sign after it if he is indeed a free agent. City need to let Messi’s side deal with this and get ourselves in working order. the scheduling and lack of break has already put us at a clear disadvantage, we cannot have a slow start to the season and allow the dippers a comfortable lead again

Jorge Messi plans to travel to Barcelona on Wednesday, Thursday or Friday - Bartomeu's idea is to renew Lionel Messi's contract for two years with a clause to leave for free on June 10th 2021, when the president is gone. [via

Balague timeline:

Phase 1: Declaration of position - (now).
Phase 2: Negotiation from extreme positions towards a compromise (end of week). This may not happen. At the moment Bartomeu refuses to negotiate.

If Phase 2 fails a phase 3: Messi leaves on a free transfer and the case goes to court.

I believe though it will end in a negotiated transfer of Messi c. £100m.

So to sum up...
Messi wants to leave and believes he's allowed to on a free.
Barca don't want him to leave, and don't believe the clause in the contract is still valid. If he does leave they believe it would be for 700 mil euro.
La Liga agree the clause for Messi leaving free has lapsed.
City seem interested - but we don't know if that's if Messi is free or for a fee.
Messi's Dad (agent) is coming to Spain to try and sort it out.
Messi has effectively gone on strike, not turning up to Barca appointments and training, his excuse, he believes he's no longer a Barca player.
...anything missing?

So questions...
Are City only interested because Messi has believes he's a free agent and advised us so?
If City are willing to pay a fee, how much? 700 mil euro is ridiculous - we would be mad to even consider it based on the amount, his age and the remaining contract length. And the accountants would have great fun getting that past FFP.
Could a deal be done? Barca are very unlikely to want to, but may be forced to if Messi is done with them.
If it goes to court in Spain it's likely to drag on for months, we'd miss the transfer window if that's applicable.
Don't we have more pressing transfer business to deal with?

This isn't going to happen very soon is it, or at all.

Anyone that doesn't deem the European Cup/Champions League the "holy grail" when it comes to trophies are in denial.

You're literally extolled as the Champions of Europe when you win it. Would be nice to have that alongside the perennial "Champions of England" on the mantelpiece.
No we just view it differently here,we like to dominate domestically ,we have been stitched up in the chumps league so many times we just cant be bothered, you dont get that so you wouldnt understand

Folks, this is going to turn into an unbearable saga. There is only one option for city to purchase Messi. They most convince Barcelona to sit and negotiate a transfer under 100 million euro. City cannot under any circumstances pay more than that amount and this has been filtered to the Spanish press who are very close to Soriano, Pep and Bereguistain.

It’s becoming more and more clear that Messi was terribly guided by his close circle and attorneys and they are now arriving at a bad juncture.

If indeed Messi is a free man why hasn’t he been signed ?

If he is free to leave why are city researching and filtering potential offers. The last info that was leaked to a member of the press in Spain of the most popular soccer show in Spain, indicates that city under no circumstances can go over 100 because of the FIFA fair play concerns and they are looking to offer players included in that 100. In particular Eric would be a player that Barcelona has shown serious interest for.

Now if Messi decides that he feels confident in the fact that he is in the right, he would always be able to get a provisional transfer by FIFA but the matter would lead a resolution by the courts and that could ultimately leas to City having to pay 700 million euros. There is absolutely ZERO chances that city will take that chance if Messi’s father this coming Wednesday does not reach a deal with Barcelonas president.

Barcelona’s president and club and at this juncture are not willing to let him leave for 100 under any circumstances.

Messi’s dad is in Rosario and he will arrive and meet with Barcelona on Wednesday or the latest thursday. This is a key date in terms of seeing how serious Barcelona is about their stance. Mind you Barcelona are in dire need of money to balance their sheet in order for the current president and him executives not to be financially responsible with their own assets for the losses, because these assets were used as collateral to obtain loans.

Messi made a clumsy mistake of challenging the club in the hopes that the president would fold with the social pressure and because he only has a couple of months of his tenure left, Barcelona’s president who is worn with Messi constant threats throughout the year has said, not this time pal.

Messi right now is not in a good spot and it’s starting to show by the hour. He’s very very close to signing with city; but it’s all a smoke screen until Barcelona caves in.
He cant sign because la liga hold his registration, obviously

I can hand on heart say, I’d rather win any domestic trophy than the CL. Not saying I don’t want thr CL as I want City to win everything but any domestic trophy > CL, IMO
