I'm starting to believe it wont happen, but then part of me thinks why would he make such a big deal that 'he's not a Barca player anymore' and not turn up to their training and test's?

Surely he's gone past the point of no return there now.

Barca wont win anything next season either, so theres not much incentive to stay
The situation is critical for Barcelona and their supporters. I feel sorry for them. Their hero refuses to play for their club. Barcelona made their move. And this morning he refuses to train with them. Messi only needs to stand firm and barcelona will have to accede to his wish to leave.

Big day today. Confidence dwindling but I can't for the life of me understand why Messi and Jorge would go to these lengths just to stay anyway. He didn't need to go this far just for a new contract. On that basis i'm clinging on to hope.

The problem we have is if he can't leave for free, or there's too much legal risk for him to do so. There is literally nothing he or we can do until next summer. Sure, Spanish Bart would be insane to keep him on that basis, but maybe he is insane.

If Barca won't negotiate there's nothing we can do.

Yes there is, I wish people would stop flapping

The way I see it is nothing has changed and negotiations continue.

The thread however has become unmanageable because people read a twitter comment from a source who is doing nothing more than guessing and spinning it and taking it as the truth. People need to take a fucking step back from the bullshit and let this play out. If he comes wonderful, if not we still have an amazing team that with a few tweaks wins the PL this coming season. Happy times no matter what happens.

We can always offer them money or money plus player(s), then they have a stark choice. Keep an unhappy player for nearly a year and pay him millions or take the cash and start to rebuild.

You get the feeling it’s not happening and I’d say it’s the last time we’d be interested in signing him. He seems a bit of a drama queen, one minute he’s never playing for Koeman or Barcelona again the next he’s staying. Gets his dad to fly over from Argentina during a pandemic for an Italian meal and a very bizarre meeting or non meeting on what reports you believe.... whilst Phil Foden gets an England call up

Am sure there will be plenty more twists and turns today. If, and it's still a big if, Messi really has told Barca's board that he will see out the remaining year of his contract and then leave on a free, it seems plausible that it could just be a negotiating ploy, aimed at forcing their hand this summer.

U will have to read it on twitter. Basically tries to explain why messi may do a u turn or forced to

More money and power.

i agree,it’s now or I’d permanently move on from Messi.

Will the nervous Nellies on this thread stop believing the codswallop on Twitter, and then expressing their fears on here.

We are negotiating for the greatest player in history. It’s a huge deal with tremendous implication for us and European football. How about we give it time to play out. These sorts of deals are not completed overnight.

That is my view - from their point of view it is CRITICAL he signs the 2 year extension - otherwise he will want him out I think - will take a deal from us. Could be very clever negotiating stance. He knows he will win nothing next season, has burnt his bridges with new manager etc and be miserable for 12m.

agreed Ric. would barca really pay him another 100m euros and get nothing in return in a year when they could get a fee and players now?

Seriously people a lot of you are turning into right Caitlyn Jenner! Stop listening to made up bullshit stories from Twitter...Tom from Halifax on Twitter said 'Messi is staying at Barcelona', He's at home laughing whilst people on here are shitting their knickers!

Nothing has been resolved from yesterday's discussions with Jorge and the other twat, Messi still wants to go, He is still on strike and they are working on a way out of Barcelona. We're not signing up some Sunday league player that's drunk every match day ffs if only it was that simple! We're trying to sign the best player on the planet, Its going to take time.

RELAX! Enjoy it...
Don't think anyone on here is shittng their knickers , maybe rival fans are but its win win for us as fans. Profile already heightened and loads of fans, journalists and hangers on all squirming and looking around for the negatives.

Lower profile players have forced moves from giant clubs in the past. Can't see how Barca wins this one, personally. Messi could force this through if he wanted to, he's too powerful a brand himself not to.

Exactly no way barca are going to pay a player £52m for a season in which he doesn't want to be part of the team to them walk away 12 months later and get nothing from it.

They are trying to bargain and receive some sort of payment from us. I reckon they are looking for between £100m-£120m

Totally disagree, IF, we have to wait a year, that makes him 34, that's getting to the veteran era, maybe ok for MLS and NYCFC but not sure about us.
Well that's where it is up to him to push this deal from his end. If Tolmie is right we have nothing to worry about, but if his camp arent forcing the issue he stays.

He's moving towards a free transfer exit imo. He can not get a transfer certificate from FIFA though until City make a proposal. That might be the next stage. Negotiations break down with Barca formally. City submit an offer to Messi and his agent, Messi and his agent go to FIFA and they resolve it.

Barcelona risk this moving out of their control and could end up with nothing

But if he really does want to leave, it would also be the logical next move to say he’s staying. Light a fire under the Barca board re wages, bonuses, transfer fee etc.
