He’s the best player ever so isn’t going to suddenly become average. Far lesser players but Yaya started to tale off before ending up a shadow of his former self and David Silva wasn’t the same player during his last 18 months but that didn’t mean he couldn’t still be class and absolutely run the show against lesser teams towards the end of last season.
Messi’s burst of pace started to go well over 12 months ago so he gets tackled far more and can’t leave 3 and 4 defenders for dead the same with a 40 yard dribble. In another 12 months who knows how much harder he’ll find it physically but Father Time hasn’t just started to catch up with the great man since the start of this season.
