Why would he wait until now?

He could have announced that as early as January, and spent the next 6 months saying goodbye. People wait for all sorts of things. Political reasons, exhaustion, needing a break, contract timelines. Barcelona is all about the projection.

If he Didn't want to leave, he could have signed on since Laporta came into the picture.

I can see Barcelona posturing, then coming out with no option and blaming the financial situation on Bartomeu.
