What I don't get is how do you end up with 110% of your revenue being sucked up in wages? How was that allowed to happen, & how did they believe they'd get around it & make the business work? :-|
Is it possible that nobody at Barca was worried about basic Mr Macawber financial rules?
Seems to me that they thought that as long as their main asset Mr Messi was a net profit the rest would fall into place.
They allowed other player costs to rise and maybe if people who used to be in power knew finances were poorly monitored perhaps shall we say the petty cash tin is full of IOU s?
A long way to run I think.

I know this will sound incredibly naive but why won’t Messi play for Barcelona for free for a couple of years ? He’s been at the Club for 21 years and has probably earned hundreds of million during that time. He doesn’t need the money but it looks like his Club does. Doesnt he owe them ? I know loyalty is an overrated commodity these days but this would be a great time for Mr Messi to demonstrate some.
I don’t believe they are allowed to register any players, regardless of playing for free, until they slash their wage bill by a huge amount (can’t remember the figures)

What if City keeps saying they're not interested in Messi because the Kane deal is already wrapped up and they can't back out.
