Greatest of all time. Nothing short of magic on the pitch, almost every time I’ve seen him play for a decade plus.

Frankly, he can do whatever the fuck he wants.

He can, yes. Still, we can have an opinion on how that affects our perception of him. He is still good enough to play at the very top. Why pack it in now?

He'll do what he wants but I hope he does it in Europe instead of MLS or Saudi. That will still be there in 3 or 5 years.

Well just saying he alr turned down Saudi twice even after the $3.6 million/y offer, if Messi is a greed person he should have say yes the moment the offer sent to his email box. I guess he just want to stay in one of the top of leagues as long as possible.

Let's see where he ends up. That will be telling. A few might be surprised, and I can see the 'he is great because he wants to stay in Europe' arguements quickly turning into 'he's done it all and has nothing to prove' justifications.

I’d like to see him in Europe for a bit more as well from a selfish perspective.

However, if Saudi give him £400 million it’ll go into maintaining at least the current lifestyle for him (doubt it’s cheap) + his whole family + potentially others in the extended fam he’d like to/or does take care of, for a long long time.

After having won every thing in football and not coming from a wealthy background, I would completely understand if he’s fine to cash-out big in place of a couple more years in Europe.

I don’t think just playing football all the time at the highest level might be the sole/most important consideration for a player at age 35 with his circumstances.

Admittedly the income stream won’t just stop after he retires either given who he is and his brand, but doubt he can demand &400 million which potentially sorts him for life, his dependents, and even further future generations. Contrast this with just a few more years at the top and the former looks more sensible.

PS: I don’t think Saudi will still give him £400m if he delays going there for a few more years, but if that’s not the case (we can’t tell though) then maybe he can stay in Europe a bit more and cash out later.

bonkers isn’t it, to be able to ask for £400m as a footballer in his mid 30’s albeit he is the greatest of all time but in his mid 20’s he couldn’t have demanded half of that despite being better at the time

Well, if the Prem was suggested to be too physical for Haaland, Messi would be messed up to come here. He would have done it if he had a larger frame, but he is smart enough to go somewhere the refs are easier bought and he can be a saint. So far Messi has selected his easiest road to fame and money. And I don't mean this in a bad way, Messi was undeniable top top top class, probably the goat, but now he is older and strategy matters more. There is a saying; You kan be a king among clowns, or you can be a clown among kings.

There is smth deeper if you would like to consider about, how come Saudi offer Messi 400 million a year? They have ambitions on football the biggest sport, and became more and more desperate after seeing its neighbour gather all the attention, impact and profit behind 2022 world cup.
Being the figure of Argentina which is the biggest competitor with Saudi for the 2030 world cup hoster, Messi can't accept the offer even if he wants to, if he nod the head he will become the part of Saudi world cup application plan, sitting against his country. And believe me the Argentinean will kill him by then.
By the way Portugal is contending for the 2030 WC too, this is why Portuguese hate Ronald for choosing Saudi, but he isn't as impactful as Messi is in the country, and portugese not have much football phycho as argentina does.

Messi is the GOAT, but we don't really need a 36-year-old riding the bench on a ludicrous salary
