Lionel Messi

@waspish that's how I read it as well from the book extract. Him and his agent dad used Pep to get a better deal with Barcelona.
Wanker.
What else was said?

The bit floating around on X yesterday and repeated a few posts above seem to suggest Pep tried hard to convince him not to come to City.

Used to like him but Took us as mugs and now can't stand the little shit

He definitely didn't in 2020.

He genuinely wanted to come and even submitted a request for his release, however, Barca refused it even though it was agreed in the contract.

As it was during COVID and the season had finished later, Barca claimed the deadline for the release clause had passed and was linked to a month rather than the end of the season.

@bluealf someone, perhaps in the media thread copied a huge chunk of the article. It covered both Messi Rapey Ronny.
Pep seemed convinced, as did Bernie and others that it was happening. A while later on Pep heard that Messi's dad was agreeing a new contract with the club he (Messi) supposedly now hated.

That's not how the book states it went. They say City were even willing to pay his release clause but mard arse Messi had got what he wanted from Barca.
