We don't. Phillips was the biggest disappointment. The lad looked half decent for Leeds and England and while he would never have been another Rodri he should have been able to do a job in the holding role in midfield. He came here and looked like he had two left feet and had never played competitive football in his life.
Nunes was a panic buy and just isn't good enough for the top level in spite of a few half decent games on the wing.
Gundogan is another surprise. He looked half decent still at Barcelona and was a no brainer on a free, but his legs have now totally gone.
Savinho and Doku the jury is out. Both flatter to deceive and if they want to stay here they have to create more and chip in with at least 10-15 goals a season.
Grealish and in particular KDB just aren't fit enough to play regularly atm.
We rarely win at Anfield, 3 times in the last 68 years tells you that. It's just a bogey ground for us and we're not alone in that. We might have all hoped we could scrape a draw maybe but deep down we knew we'd get beat.
Poor recruitment and underperforming of the players we have recruited now means we have a huge rebuilding job on our hands. I'd say a left and right back and a proper solid center half. We need a holding and also a creative midfield player and another striker. That's six players, half a team. We also need to look at the injury records of these players.
We could see the end of the road for Walker, Gundogan, Ederson, KDB and possibly Stones at the end of the season. Great player but he's just never fit. If we got offered half decent fees for Nunes and Grealish I feel they might be moved on too. The first five have been magnificent for us over the glory years and Grealish during the treble season but they all look totally burnt out and that's no surprise given the levels they've performed at and the effort they've put in.
Whether we ever reach those dizzy heights again time will tell but boy what a last few years it has been.
