Awful performance. Love Pep, but really made some questionable calls today. KDB starting as a right winger made absolutely no sense. Cancelo should have played LB with Akanji at RB and Ake (or preferably Laporte) at CB. Why on earth we didnt concentrate our attack on Milner, who in his current form probably is the worst RB the league has ever seen, I have no idea. Didnt help that VAR as usual helped the cunts with the goal ruled out, but this Liverpool side is useless and we should win comfortably against them.

They was more up for it than us. But still got to say. Lucky scouse cunts. VAR is your friend.
This is the thing about Liverpool (It's not Anfield it's Liverpool). They believe their own hype, get giddy over the slightest thing and it works in their favour as their players gain confidence from it. Then on games like these it doesn't matter how they've been playing before they will be well up for it.

But. We should still of been too much for these.

Sorry, but that was all on Pep. As soon as I saw that rumour about the changed lineup and formation I was 99% sure it was going to go like it did.

I don't blame the players on the pitch at all. They would have been unconfident with that formation and that showed in how they played. Pep absolutely shit the bed.

We could have played the same lineup and formation as against Utd and won without a problem. The players would have felt confident and settled. Grealish would have been on the pitch to do his thing, including keeping things calm and enabling everyone else to play their best, but no, Pep had to shit the bed. No fucking idea when he'll learn. And no fucking idea either what Grealish has to do to get a proper run in this team.

With the amount of attacking we do and set pieces we win, sack our set piece coach if we have one and get someone new in. Take Kev off set pieces as a total waste esp corners. No idea why the club is so lax on this as games can be won from set plays yet we never look a danger

Tactically a disasterclass. We shat the bed. We showed this (poor) Liverpool side too much respect. This City side should beat that Liverpool side every day of the week.

We didn’t create enough chances. Phil obviously instructed not to take on 36-year-old Milner. Regardless of Cancelo’s howler, we weren’t good enough. Kev couldn’t influence the game. Only Silva running his socks off. Worst part is that the scoreline is flattering for us because Ederson pulled off a big save and Liverpool we’re pretty wasteful in front of goal in the second half.

Very, very frustrating and disappointing. We could’ve put the nail in their coffin tonight. They’ve registered only their third win of the season. Had we stuck to what we do best, in the system we play best, it’s likely we’d be walking away with the three points.

I am putting this loss (our first of the season no less) firmly at the feet of Pep.

Say what you want about Joao’s mistake—and there is quite a lot to be said—but it should have never been 0-0 by that point in the first place.

The system was wrong, the tactics were wrong, and the sub (1 of 5) were wrong. Our lads generally didn’t play that well, to be sure, but I think a large part of that was down to the formation and tactics: Kev was wasted on the RW, Ilkay was unnecessary, if not actually a hinderance with his instructions, Phil seemingly being told to retain possession at all costs rather than test Milner.

Pep is a genius, and I wouldn’t swap him for any other manager in the world, but he got this one wrong.
I couldn't agree more but rather than the team craps the bed there, he spends far too much time kissing their backside in pre match conferences it effects his thinking.

Totally overthought by Pep in a massive game again, really had the chance to kill their season off.

Lack of subs is pure petulance as well, Alvarez and or Grealish needed 20 minutes ideally when still 0-0.

Finally the state of our fucking corners and set piece in general today, was the worst I’ve seen in years corners and free kicks were schoolboy level.

Miles off it. We've had a really easy start to the season and we were clearly unprepared for the intensity of that match except maybe Bernardo. We never seem to get it right there for whatever reason and we allow ourselves to get dragged into a dogfight with them which suits them much more than us. De Bruyne was totally anonymous stuck out on the right and Haaland was wasteful with the chances he had. You can't legislate for the mistake Cancelo made when last man against Salah. Phil might want to reflect on why he's been pocketed by Milner and Ashley Young already this season. No complaints over the disallowed goal - clear pull on Fabinho.

I thought we were handicapped by thinking we had to pass it to Haaland every time we got into the box, sometimes another player was better positioned.
I thought KDB was poor, wasted position for him but he played it badly.
Abso-bloody-exactly.

That result ws on the cards after the first 5 minutes...it was so clear what they were going to do and its the same as they always try and do...

Plan a is to try and over run us for the first 15 -20 mins.....if they score they then play on the break...
If they dont score they go to plan b...sit back, out fight us in the middle third and punce on any mistake...they were just waiting when we were playing it out from the back 4 into midfield for a loose touch or something like that..
As it happened it was route one from their keeper and a terrible defensive decision from Cancello

We have a few players who just dont ever have the intensity for this type of game...nothing to do with quality but everything to do with heart and ability to be that couple of per cent more intense in your game....Cancello, Ake are two prime for that (Mahrez is another but thankfully he didnt get anywhere near the pitch)....KDB does it as well.....not all the time but from time to time he disappears in games when people get in his face....

Bernardo and Foden were very good. .....Haaland had little to play with but did well when he could.....

We need to learn that as good as certain players are (and in some cases they are very good players) when its an intense match like that sometimes its better to play the ones who battle....Cancello has NEVER been that player. He is absolutel quality technically but he doesnt have fight in him...KDB does this disappearing act from time to time as well

It was the worst possible performance at the worst possible game compounding by the unneccessary tinkering in a big game by pep. But it's still 10pts between us and them and I'll take that any day. However this idea that Arsenal are gonna bottle it isn't a brilliant take right now.
We have to play Arsenal home and away. A draw there, and a win at ours, and we are fine. Just wish we'd taken one of our chances today, but we don't have to go back there till next year.

What a frustrating match to listen to over here in Oz.............we did more than enough to get some kind of result today, we just pick ourselves up and go again, and remember they just won their cup final..............
