Liverpool (A) | PL | Post Match Thread

None of those are bad players by any stretch of the imagination. I’m convinced Elliot is on PED though.
Honestly how many of them would you take? They are not first team players. We faced a very under strength Liverpool side today and we blew a great opportunity to take control of the title race. That second half display was embarrassing really

Yes, wouldnt surprise me if we come out with a 4-0 win on the day, i think the momentum of a big win will carry us on, all 3 clubs are likely to drop some points in the run in,we just have to reset and carry on, Liverpool will be very disapointed with todays result, its disapointing reading some of the posts on here they realy should know better, i wonder if football is realy for them

I think the fact we haven’t beaten a top 5 side and we are in March, shows we have regressed. Poor window. Not much improvement and no one to lace gundo’s boots. Rice was the only signing we needed to make. Rather mahrez than Doku, Palmer had scope.
Haaland is an issue, anonymous unless he is banging tgem in against bottom half teams.
We may get away with it and fall over the line, but the last couple of transfer windows have left a lot to be desired.

I think we need to acknowledge the elephant in the room.

Unless Haaland scores or produces a big moment for someone else he is a liability in our team setup.

Also, this is the second game this season where our midfield has been completely obligated by the opposition (happened against Aston Villa as well). In recent I've seen us lose, play badly, have an off day, lose to a poorly defended counter attack but never get completely dominated in the middle of the park. This doesn't happen to Pep teams and it's happened twice so far this season. I believe it's connected to the above factor.

Anyway, thanks to a great piece of set piece work we came away with a point. That's a positive at Klanfield but it means the title is now out of our direct control.
We should easily be able to control a midfield while still having Haaland on the pitch. Controlling a midfield while giving De Bruyne no defensive responsibility, sticking Foden out wide, having one of Alvarez or Doku constantly turning the ball over, that is a different conversation though. Pep has some difficult choises to make now. Especially Alvarez is not good enough to start these kind of games, certainly not out of position.

It's because Liverpool had key players missing and everyone thought it was our best chance to win there. Also to put it back in our own hands we needed a win. That's why. Anfield is just one tough fucking place to get a result.
I get that but you also have to factor in our record there as well as the fact that a lot has been made of the players they missed whilst forgetting they still had a competent team

But realistically.....let's have a deep analysis of what we are good at v where our current weaknesses lie...

I’m all for debating the performance but some of the reaction in this thread has been over the top. Questioning of some of the players who’ve given everything and have been utter warriors over the last 18 months. The lads will make mistakes as Ake did today but let’s not get dragged down into calling players out and getting on the teams back

I think you have that backwards.
We needed the 3 points more than they did and I know it
I’ll agree to disagree but they needed to be 4 points clear of us rather than 1 point. We are masters of winning this league and they know it and the whole of the league now it. Give me that point today any day of the week regardless of who they had missing. They had a chance to pretty much put us out of the picture somewhat today but didn’t and they and Arsenal will pay the price for that.
