Liverpool (A) | PL | Post Match Thread

Before Cherki took that free-kick, gargoyle one said that there were only 15 seconds left.

I’m sure Rayan was aware of that, and that’s why he booted it into the stand.

Sure enough, as soon as Allison took the game-kick, Pawson blew for full-time.
That seems to be spot on Vienna. On his MotD commentary Guy Mowbray, “And guess what… as soon as Alison clears this it’ll be full time”. And it was. Commentators seem to be able to hear VAR telling the ref “time’s up”. And City had been asking how long was left for a few minutes. The last one seen telling to the referee was … Ferlinghetti?

Liverpool have collapsed this season. They have gone from 60 points after 25 games in 2024-25 to 39 points in 2025-26.

Statistically this is one of the worst title defences in English football history. Leicester's defence was the worst in modern times (final points change -37).

We always had a decent chance of beating Liverpool. Still, a very good result, and a good performance. And most of all, we showed that we have a good mentality. We slipped at Spurs, and some fans killed the team. In reality, Spurs changed tactics, and City conceded a goal through foul play, and a goal through a fluke goal.
Not the worst, though. I don’t think anyone will ever top us for the worst title defence :)

In subjective calls, referees will always back the decision and seek ways to interpret it to back it.

At the end of the day, if he had alloeed the goal, nobody not one person would have questioned it. Because within the exact same subjective provision, the advantage obviously materialised. Nobody would be going, but haaland fouled him, because it was all part of one off the ball action. So their hindsight agreement is pretty much meaningless here, and most regulars would then have also agreed with it.
Think lot of people forget that the VAR should interfere if the ref makes an absolute wrong decision. This time he didn’t and there was no reason for the VAR to interfere.
VAR is about ‘trying’ to cancel goals. It’s working great in rugby, hockey to name a few, but in football it isn’t.

Our first double over Pool since before the war.

Apols if already mentioned.
given a) our recent strength over the last decade or so and b) it's a ridiculously long time not to have done the league double over a team anyway, i wonder what the next longest one to break is? or if there's one longer???? (not including weird instances where we haven't played someone for 80 years)

Watching the game again this time with the Sky commentary and unbelievably the main comm says of Van dyk that “he remains the outstanding centre half in the league”

The dippers, in one of the worst title defences in recent history, have been shipping goals left right and centre with VVD variously caught out of position / ambling back / slow to react and this Sky clown chooses to ignore all that and treat us like fools with his nonsensical shite.

I have to hold my hand up and say that IMO it would be best all around if Bernie moved away after this season as his form was poor in the beginning of this season, but the lads made me eat my words as he`s been outstanding in these last few games.
Loved him from the first time I ever saw him play, for Monaco against the Blues in the CL and me and my lad said what a talented lad he really was. Role on a few months later and WOW just couldn`t believe our luck that we prised him away.
One of my all time favourites and he`s also turned in to be a great captain with his displays and work rate.
What was I thinking about getting shut of the lad ?

Dippers agree, rags laugh, and that's the two biggest Sky audiences satisfied.

Today I rewatch the last 20 minutes of that game and it was such a good effort from the boys to get back in the game. Bernie was magnificent and played the true captains role. Loved it when Dias came between Erling and slobagob as he was trying to get in Erlings head. Absolute limbs in the way end at the end. Brilliant result.

Ref made the onfield decision with CLEAR SIGHT OF BOTH ACTIONS and everyone understood that he had simply called it as a “six of one…” as they do half the wrestling matches from corners.

He was going to blow the whistle on kick off anyway, so VAR should have just said “Did you see the tug on Haaland and his tug back on Szob? If so, that’s all we see.” and be done with it!

Pawson literally saw it all unfold in front of him and gave the goal, created an outstanding moment of drama at the end of a game full of it, and I’m not sure ANYONE would have complained that Pawson made a “clear and obvious error.”

Instead, we get another multi-minute VAR fiasco, a RARE moment of high drama is squashed yet again, and even Liverpool would have been happier with a 3-1 and having Szob available for their next game!

THE FANS HAVE BEEN FORGOTTEN!
