Btw, has anyone seen the foul on Sterling in the pen area in the 6th minute again? Seemed like a stonewall pen to me when i first saw it.

Not surprised we lost at Anfield (yet again). For me Liverpool have the best attack in the league when they click. YESTERDAY WE DIDN'T HELP OURSELVES ON THAT SCORE. But we're allowed a blip. We are top by some margin for a reason and this defeat changes nothing at all. We're champions elect.
It does however annoy me a little as it could have been avoided. As I said none of the defence played well goalkeeper included. We should have started with Silva ahead of Gundogan. Yet again Gun disappointed. And why oh why do we play Sterling against Liverpool? He's never yet had a good game. Come to think of it he's never had an average game against them. Always poor. It's in is head as the ability to affect the outcome of a game is there.
Roll on to Newcastle and back to business as usual. I expect the perfect response and I think we'll get it.

Thought we missed Silva yesterday. In a high octane game he just gives you time and space. Punished in a mad 15 minute spell, but what character we showed and in the end could have forced a draw. It’s gone. We focus on Newcastle and get back to winning ways

Judging by the reaction of the media and opposition fans I honestly think they were expecting us to go unbeaten for the entire season. I knew we would lose a game eventually and I'm just glad it was in a game where we played poorly against a club who played like it was their cup final.
I've heard many Liverpool fans say that was their best performance of the season, they'll go back to being dog shit, where we will go back to being better organised and take Newcastle apart.
Moments like these define what kind of club you are..... a club challenging for the top with the ability to take a defeat on the chin, or a club clinging onto past time glory, who only show up in 2 games out of 38, with the inevitability to consistently be proactive after a string of half decent results.

Good stuff Colin. Yes Stones felt that Ederson should have come for the ball and had a go at him after the goal went in. Everyone else knew that Stones should have cleared the ball.
Liverpool knee they could continue to press as we struggled to find a longer ball option with our cross field balls a bit hit and miss. We could have done with a more physical presence at centre forward to hold the ball up so that we could regroup. That’s not really our style though.
Stones should have done better but he was barged in the back and however soft or hard that barge, it was clear and Firmino gained an advantage from it so that is a foul in my book. We don't know what Stones would have done if he had not been fouled.
I don't think we need a more physical presence at centre forward to hols up the ball, I believe both Aguero and Jesus should be able to do that when the ball is played into them. I think Aguero, loses the ball more than he should.

That loss feels even worse after 15+ hours. In the pre-match thread I said I was not worried about playing Dippers after our Napoli games. How mistaken I was!
Not surprising our first loss was at Anfield.
Kopp has a better record than most against Pep. He knows what's required. High energy, clinical finishing and luck.
It reminded me a bit of Bayern's 2 CL semi losses against Real and Barca. Lots of possession against a team defending deep with 3 quality forwards.
Our midfield trio were not close together yesterday.

Yesterday we were disjointed.
Some players were not at their best.
Liverpool were lucky with their second goal, a foul should have been awarded to us in the build up to it.
As for the 3rd goal, Ederson's fault but he comes out a lot for the ball and usually finds one of our players.
Liverpool were rested and fired up for the match, more than any other this season imo, yet they came very close to throwing the win away.
A disappointing outcome but not the end of the world.
One thing that nobody seems to have touched on is that Liverpool are now on the same points as the rags which will make the battle for the next four places interesting....

they're always up for it, difficult places to go and we go there as both a scalp and beatable. Dipper players have a number of wins over us there so no matter how average their side is when it comes to our game they know and believe they can do us, regardless of the quality or superiority of our side. Meanwhile, we go there with a side that only has Delph in it with a win as a visiting player at Anfield in the league and with the weight of a record that says "this is really hard, and we don't win here and they'll be up for it".
We broke OT with the 6-1 and backed it up. We haven't had that moment at Anfield and the Dippers don't fear losing to us, they just pathologically love beating us. If we could have upset them when it really hurt it may have been different, but both in 13/14 and yesterday we capitulated and allowed them to keep their aura.
We've pretty much lost the psychological battle before we turn up, we need to get over that somehow but it's difficult to see what we change that will cope with the Anfield press and pressure that we continually falter under.
Interesting that some believe there is a psychological or mental issue about City playing at Anfield and some don't. I think it is relevant to both sets of players; I don't think it is the only factor but when they retook the lead against the run of play following a move that could have been stopped on two occasions by the ref, I think our record there got into the heads of both sets of players.
