Liverpool (A) Post Match Thread.

I think Pep will use this defeat to the-focus the team.

His message will carry greater weight on the back of such a defeat.

Expect to see a revitalised City next week

And hopefully Merlin back ;-)

Wow! We have to lose some time. So it goes. Reminds me of the 3-2 when Liverpool thought they had won the league. We weren't that great today, don't know why David didn't play but there you go. 15 points clear with 15 to play. I'm not crying.
Got it in one pal.......suggest media blackout for the next week .

Some of the crap being spouted here screams of entitlement. Some questioning the character of a team which have came back and won games on at least 5 occasions this season. The character and mentality of a player who's goals, a few late as well has won the team the most amount of points and helped afford a 15 point lead. A team which played in a tough mid-week cup game where half the team played against a team that's had a 9 day rest. Its quite baffling

You can say sterling was poor which he was but it has nothing to do with any weak mentality or anfield. if that's the case then the whole team should never show up at anfield again seeing as they'd never won there for some time even before he was in the team.

You can also say the team as a whole was poor, late to every second ball, misplaced more passes than in any game this season, made a lot of unforced errors and conceded goals as as result of that and some poor defending, but again nothing to do with their quality, or character. It was just a bad day at the office nothing more nothing less. Even the great barca team of pep never went a season unbeaten so yes it was a poor performance, a bad day but that shouldn't put into question the quality or mentality of this team. This is a very special team and I'm almost certain days like this won't happen very often. 15 points clear, a semi final cup tie in which they have a lead, and favourable draws in the FA Cup and champions league. Pep, the staff and the players will dust themselves off and get back to it

They played well, pressed well but goals 3-4 were completely avoidable(poor choices to lead up to mistake and poor execution as they happened... in other words we've played out of much better presses than that we created those situations ourselves in my view) this was levels below the performance over in Napoli for instance if you can't see that I don't know what to tell you. That's not Liverpool's problem nor is the mistake from the ref to allow the foul by Firmino, they took their chances readily I will give them that but they did not beat a full strength in form City today.

My argument is that mistakes are more likely to happen when under pressure, and we lost our composure at 2-1. When we beat teams, we take credit for applying the pressure that leads to mistakes, so by the same reckoning, we have to say Liverpool induced us into being 'rattled' and forced our mistakes.
I think we looked nervous from the start, and Liverpool looked hell bent on keeping the game at 100mph to keep us out of our comfort zone.

The poor kid has suffered terrible abuse from a wide spectrum of supporters and to be honest I've no idea why. He has been billiant this season and anything but mentally weak. You look in the crowd at Klanfield and you can see the hatred and vitriol in the faces of those twats abusing him. Who knows whT they're shouting at him, but bear in mind some cretin attacked him the other week, so course it's going to effect him, he's a human being. I absolutely despise the rags, but I don't behave like that when we play them, as at the end of the day I have some self respect and would be an embarrassment to the club. Liverpool on the other hand seem to encourage this type of behaviour, with Bodger's ensuring that he left under a cloud with everyone hating him.

We need to get behind the lad and remind ourselves how young he is and what a great season he is having.
Yes he has been brilliant but he just has a phycological block at Anfield. It doesn't help that all his passing options were shut down very quickly (as we're Sane's) - the difference between the two today was Sane stuck the afterburners on and occasionally beat a player down the flank. Sterling used to do that a lot for Liverpool but doesn't do it at all for us now. Must be Pep's instructions but there are times when he needs to do just that.

They are given on a regular occurrence. Firminhos arm comes up so it wasn't a shoulder it was a push. Stones admittedly was weak but what outcome do you think would be if that was Aguero on Lovren?

It'd be a free kick to Liverpool. Wrongly, in my opinion. I'm one of the first people to say the ref got it wrong and he did today, a lot. Just don't think he did there.

Can’t believe so many are suggesting the push wasn’t a foul. Yes stones was weak and you look to your centre half to be stronger there but he’s entitled not to have to brace himself for a push in the back when defending, it caught him unexpectedly which is why it looked weak from him because it was a foul and gets given as a foul 99 times out of 100. That doesn’t excuse the result though there was 3 other goals of our own making.
