Liverpool (a) post-match thread

Started brightly but had no answer to the early goals. We look all over the place in defence and we miss too many chances; that was always going to come back and bite us on the arse at some point.
3rd time in 12 games we've been bitten, if you don't put easy chances away you're vulnerable to poor defending, Spurs H, Norwich A, now Liverpool A. We've also not put chances away in games we've won, some think that its not a concern, it is, because we do it far too often, and poor defending will cost us in other games.

Sorry if it’s been posted (not trawling back to check) but did anyone notice that Gabby picked up a yellow card after the final whistle. So in a game where we have the majority of the possession and actually commit fewer fouls we still end up with 2 yellow cards for dissent (the only yellow cards in the match)

Fabinho should have been booked within 20 mins. Oliver did his job though

Does anybody think that VAR couldn't give the early penalty because it would look ridiculous to cancel Liverpool's goal and take the play back to the other end of the pitch?
It's the sort of situation dismissed as "theoretical only" when VAR was introduced, but it certainly came to life today.
That happened in Germany

That Walker/Bravo moment for Grace Joneses crucial third goal was Chuckle brother esq...would never have happened with big Boris Karloff in goal.I'd accept that if we are not quite at the level of the last two years that a vibrant young Chelsea team or an emerging Leicester City took our title but the thought of hell freezing over the Mersey is something nightmares are made of. And you just know this year the Prem will be way more important than Champions league success, unlike last year.

agreed

If the defending was better however we wouldnt have to worry about the missed chances.

Its a part of the whole of peps system however....our vulnerbility is in behind as he likes to keep possession so to do that he pushes his whole team but especially his defence very high up when we have the ball - the negative to that is if we lose the ball in a key area we are very susceptable to a qucik counter as there is so much space in behind....such simple passes to make as well.....long ball into space for a quicj player to run onto....and when you are up against players with the skill of a Mane, salah etc they are going to make you pay......Son did it last year to us as well. If we go behind we are even more open to it

I thkn i heard a stat today on the coverage that i was wartching in that Pep has only been behind by 2 or more goals at half time on about 5 times.....and he has lost all but one (Im sure this is what they said) . Whe nyou look at eh way Pep plays it wouldnt be suprising if this was true

There are very few teams witht he ability to exploit that space (especially outwide).....oppostion wingers/wide palyers are usually too busy chasing our wide players and fullback s bac deep into their own half to get forward....

Possession is so impprtant to the way Pep plays but it does leave us wide open to that quick break and wquick switch of play when we lose the ball.....

If we were as clinical in attack, as most other teams against us, then we wouldn't have to worry about the defending, its a better argument I'm afraid.

yeah undoubtedly...i agree but its impossible to lose a game if the opponent doesnt score.....We are th better footbaling team quirte easily but Liverpool are defensively a bit more solid when they actually defend . 3 work horses in midfield help that. Mouhrohno commented on it pre match (And i hate that guy!)

You need to put the glass down by the way.
