Dave has a 2 week breather after this,we need to keep the ball and the 2 silva's together will do just that

Granted, although a two-week breather after the result doesn't really alter much.

Much as Dave has been great last couple games, he's shown clear signs of fatigue.

I've even seen him misplace four or five passes!

Playing Devils advocate, these scumbags have been lucky not to have had Sergio playing against them in our recent defeats to them, and Dave will be perfect sliding the ball either side of their central defenders.

Not sure why we should change our tactics , the Dippers are nothing special , the only issue is they treat our game at Klanfield every season like a cup final , because they wont admit it but they are jealous as f*ck of our football club , we win trophies and we have born winners in our squad and management, whilst they shit themselves in big games and finals. No matter what the result on Sunday we know they will bottle it at Easter , their supporters are of the same ilk , at Klanfield they attack opposition supporters and players and yet when they go to Roma / Napoli and other european games they cry for protection for their supporters , they are f*cking cowards. They show no remorse or responsibility for the hundreds of deaths they have caused in the name of football , and i have never met a scouser with an ounce of humility ,they are the most hated supporters in europe , apologies to all Everton fans who are cut from a different cloth compared to the vile vermin that frequent the aging shite football ground that is Klanfield

Would love to win, I expect a loss though.
Still on the bright side we’d only be 3 points behind with plenty of time to claw it back

Just pick our best team and play our usual way. That currently includes Sterling who I think should start regardless of any concerns about past matches there. If we lose as usual, fair enough but at least we will have given it a go on our terms. For me the more he pisses about with things specifically to try to deal with Liverpool the worse we look.

I think doing that is justifiable on many levels because we ought to win if we play at something like our best and avoid stupid errors. Unfortunately we have a habit of cocking up there, often early in games, and simply playing into their hands.

My biggest concern is the mental side of the game and I am not sure any team selection is immune to those issues. However, I would be sorely tempted to do something different and I am not of a mind that Pep has gone far enough on that score.

I'm not in favour though of going and parking the bus and trying to play on the counter; although it could be very effective. My "alternative" approach would be to go with a 4-5-1 and in the extreme make the 1 a false nine but not starting Aguero would seem perverse when he is in scoring form and has a good track record vs them. I do though think we should be flooding midfield making it exceptionally difficult for them to find their front three. I don't want us to play around with the ball in our own half too much and would like the players to have an if in doubt play the ball down the flanks for Sane and Sterling to chase. Try and do things to discourage them pressing high and absolutely don't make it easy for them to nick the ball deep in our half... I want to pass them off the park but in their half.

My starting XI:

Ederson
Walker Stones Kompany Laporte Zinchenko
Sterling Fernandinho Silva Sane
Aguero (Bernado)

Well amongst all the doom, I'm really looking forward to this one. I know our record there is beyond shit,
so just another record to be broken.

Wow! I surmise you dislike scousers then. Gotta say I agree with you though, just you put it better.

Well, no more Ox screamers from the distance, for starters.
No coach attacking this time surely??

Last time at Anfield (CL 3-0):
........................Ed
Walker. ....Ota........Komps.....Laporte
Gündogan...Dinho... .David
.....KDB........Jesus....Sané

Pep tried to strengthen our midfield, leaving 1 winger (Raz) out (came on as only sub).
We scored zero. Cannot be worse I think.

Our midfield normally would be (without KDB and Gündogan): Bernardo - Dinho - David.
Much more creative and attacking compared to Kanté-Jorginho-Kovacic or Milner-Henderson-Wijnaldum.
That's our problem. But would Pep really change the system to 4-2-3-1 adding Stones or Danilo?

I think we need 2 AMs (2 Silvas) for our possesion game. They just have to work more defensive without the ball, our wingers too.

Whatever line-up, we have to defend as a team, full power. Not easy for Sané, David or Bernie.
High intensity in defence, no silly mistakes. Not a single one this time.
Don't get caught on the break. We should do counters, if possible.

Most of all, play and fight as a team.

If you actually look at the goals we have conceded against them of late, most can be attributed to basic defensive errors or shots from outside the penalty area.

For the 4-3, Delph gives up cheap ball and a shot along the ground beats Ederson.

Gundogan gives Otamendi a hospital back pass and then Mane is in.

Stones needs to be stronger but gets pushed far too easily for another.

Ederson then goes walkabout and ball is returned from 40 yards.

In the Champions League tie, Sane gives the ball away with a stupid ball across the midfield and Walker fails twice to clear the ball and Ederson is weak as fuck with a push out back onto play before Salah accepts the incompetence.

Then it's a screamer from Chamberlain after Gundogan fails to clear and wanks out of a challenge.

At our place, tiredness plays a bit part but Otamendi gets done easily and then Firmino is shown a clear route to goal.

All of the above was easily preventable, nowhere are we being undone.

It is basic pressed errors in possession. The margins are very fine, Otamendi hits the crossbar with a header at 1-1, we are a whistle away from two legitimate goals being allowed and the thud of a post from Bernardo.

City 4 - Liverpool 1

Based in part on how, still evolving Chelsea, outplayed Liverpool last week in both their win and draw.

I would go with the regular 4-3-3 with Stones and Laporte at CB and Zinchenko at LB if Mendy doesn't make it. Terrified of Zinchenko in defense but Salah struggled on the weekend when he was forced to defend a little. I feel like we change things up too much against these guys. Just show up, play our game, and let the focus be on staying sharp and moving the ball quickly rather than adapting to a new formation.

Any chance we could avoid the usual nonsense, where the game starts okay, we look composed, they score with their first attack (following a rare lapse) on our behalf, then all hell breaks loose for 15 minutes?

0-0 at half time please

im hoping he learns from that line up, Laporte back into CB, both Silvas for possession and he'll have aguero fit. shame about kdb. but same formation.
