It's a very legitimate argument, they didn't know who to pick up.

Pep has also done it with Barca down the years when he played Messi much deeper, certainly in that famous semi-final win over Madrid at the Bernabeu.

I would say that we might see Sergio playing far closer to the midfielder, effectively making it a six across the middle out of possession, rather than pressing them high.

There is no need for us to press them high, as they want us strung out back to front.

Aguero also showed with his great goal and running from deep against Brighton that we could easily take it in turns to make interchangeable runs, meaning their full-backs also don't have much space to run in to.

The only other time I saw this work to perfection was away at West Brom on Boxing Day under Pellegrini.

Pellegrini did the same against Palace the game before, but at that time we didn't have a recognized striker fit, whereas Guardiola would have to leave out Aguero and Jesus to do it now; and there would be all hell to pay if it didn't work out. :-)

My only concern with Aguero is that his natural tendency is to drift further forward into attacking positions, while for Sterling/Silva/Bernardo/Mahrez the instinct is to drift back into midfield, which gives us greater fluidity and causes more confusion.

He did something very similar at OT last season. 10 minutes in the game he pushed Jesus out wide and moved sterling into the hole, leaving them not knowing who to pick up.

It was devastating that day and could work today. Jesus presses with more energy than Sergio too.

The match thread is going to be a corker today lol

Oh most definitely. The Samaritans are apparently looking into ways of counseling people via SMS and online platforms, so I'd say a proactive approach on our Matchday threads would stand them in good stead

Sergio can get a goal out of nothing, gabby is so off colour i wouldn't play him instead if sergio, madness

I feel like i used to feel in the hours before a derby, sick

I will be staying out of it, mostly because I’ve stupidly agreed to go to a mate’s place (as a neutral venue) to watch it with several other City and Liverpool supporters.

His place may not be standing in 5 hours.

Heresy, I know, but I'd have Aguero on the bench for this one and play no recognised forward, with Bernardo/Silva/Sterling rotating, instead. I think we played some of our smartest domestic football last season in the first half against that lot at the Etihad. Alas, on the day we failed to take our chances and ultimately paid dearly, but I think that system would give us the numbers in midfield and cause concentration problems for Liverpool's defenders.
I’m sure to be proved wrong but history tells us Sterling isn’t clinical enough when big chances come. Look at the Derby. Play Aguero.

Please win, shove it up those scouse wankers, and open up clear water at the top of the league...
Come on PEP, nail it today

Weird isn’t it....eveb derby day doesn’t quite give me the feeling as I have today of marching all around the house feeling sick

Flying to Crete now. Booked it for the International break some months ago. Was always the risk we'd be the Sunday game and especially the 4ish kick off. So wierdly won't hear anything until the match has finished and we land. Chilled after beer. Hate them, come on you blues. No dodgy refereeing decisions and we have the ammunition to stuff them..

History tells us that Aguero doesn't score at Anfield. :-(

Let's hope that by this evening we're both proven wrong and that Anfield becomes a hunting ground rather than a haunting ground.

Because we are always confident of beating them. They dont pose a threat to us in a football match.

Liverpool are different. The way they play gives us a headache and klopp has a good record against Pep. He gets in his head.

Every single premier league game we go into I always feel like we will win.

This game I never get that feeling.

We were unplayable in that first half against United. We could see that same tactic today.
