Liverpool are right, we can never equal their history.

anyone could have equalled their history if they'd been bankrolled by littlewoods pools too.....

What annoys me most about liverpool and the rags is their staunch belief that they have a right to be at the top of english football just because of who they are. They dont have to earn it or work hard like the rest of the teams they are united and they are liverpool so they have a rightful place at the top of english football.

they were bankrolled to success by Littlewoods pools a long time before the Premier League was formed

Liverpool won most of their titles in the 70s and 80s. On top of any external cash coming in, their success bred success in a similar way to Utd/Arsenal during the premier years.

While the money was shared out more evenly than today, Liverpool still had the consistent big crowds plus the extra cash that came from winning the league, cups and Euro trophies. It wasn't as extreme as now, and the rest of the league was much more evenly matched, but Liverpool had a small financial edge and as the BIG ONE they were also the most attractive transfer for most players.

Where they compare favourably with United is that the margin between then and the other teams was smaller, so it still a reasonable achievement to stay on top. With United and Arsenal it was simply a matter of being at the top at the right time. By the mid 90's they were just competing with each other, and had such a financial advantage, that it would have taken a truly bad manager for either team to have failed.
Bingo! That was the point of the OP.

-- Tue Oct 12, 2010 11:55 am --

By the way the "World Series" isn't a global competition that only the Yank's take part in.

Originally back in the day, the play off's were sponsored by the World Newspaper. Hence the World Series

Long since dissolved but the name stuck....

I personally don't want to emulate anyone elses history. Lets make our own!
Bingo!

comparing winning the premier league to winning the Division 1, is like comparing wining the baseball 'World' Series to the football World Cup, RIDICULOUS!! How can you compare the baseball 'World' Series, a competition in which 98% of the world are excluded, to the football World Cup? How can you compare winning the premier league, a competition from which 98% of British football clubs are excluded through lack of wealth, to winning the Division 1?

That's why Liverpool are right, MUFC, CFC, MCFC can never equal Liverpool’s history.

That's why Liverpool are right, MUFC, CFC, MCFC can never equal Liverpool’s history.

Liverpool were successful for a spell of forty years. They were backed by a stable, wealthy boardroom when the likes of Villa and City weren't. In fact, when Liverpool and Man Utd started becoming successful (the 1950's and 60's) the likes of Villa (who, at the time, were England's most trophied club) were going into a spiral of self-destruction. It's all swings and roundabouts. What's happening to Liverpool today is no different to what happened to Villa in the 1960's.

Liverpool's success in the past occurred when they were wealthier than others...it's no different to anything that has happened in the Premier League era. Take their greatest ever player, for example: we would all have loved Kenny Dalglish playing for us but it took a British record transfer fee from Liverpool to get him from Celtic. Money has always talked in football. The levels of money might be more eye-watering now, but the olden days were no different: Liverpool's success owed an awful lot to money and an awful lot to a stable boardroom - both key ingredients for success.

It's because the Yanks think that the winners of it are World Champions.

Gotta the love the internet...and especially the old school websites (christ, I'm feeling nostalgic about the 'olden days/web 1.0' internet already).

And Liverpool will never match City's history!

It's all relative. We won a European trophy before Liverpool so are we a more traditional European club than Liverpool?

Let's be proud of our history as we build a great future and let Liverpool and the rest worry about people emulating their success.

would'nt want liverpools history tbh...
Liverpool thugs start panic stampede at heysel stadium, many fans die and liverpool fc get british clubs banned from European competitions..

No thanks Dippers....keep yer fookin history.

we will make our own future instead..
