Liverpool game... 12th man

Well I was there yesterday and their fans definitely outsang us, this doesn't happen very often at any ground but it did at Anfield.

We were the ones who were quiet as a library at times. But there were times when neither set of fans were making any noise and I thought I was actually in a cemetery!! After they scored their second I was trying to get 'we're Man City we fight to the end' going but it was impossible.

Sorry but we were absolutely NOT the 12th man yesterday.

Onwards and upwards with Manchester City.

Well the lads we was with never shut up, so that confuses me?....where was you sat mate?

Old style football stadiums retain the noise and direct it at the pitch better. Their fans can be good when they're up for it (and as someone else has pointed out - first home of the season, against the champions, they're gonna be) but this also can't be underestimated as a factor.

Put a random 35,000 of Arsenal's fans inside Upton Park and the atmosphere would be better than at the Emirates, for example.

You don't sit at away matches!! (Sorry, couldn't resist that :-)) I was in 124 row 10 and normally sound will travel down toward those at the front there was much less yesterday than almost any away match recently. Sorry.

city were bang on form first half where i was stood, never shut up, did.nt here a peep out of liverpool until they scored when they started 1 of only 3 chants i heard all game, a bit subdued second half but a great atmosphere all the same, toure song brilliant, we never win at home brilliant etc etc, ps when i asked a liverpool fan outside they food village if tevez's goal was a back pass( as i missed it talking to my son) his reply was " i'm austrian"

I was there, the loudest noise from their fans was the cameras clicking whenever there was a corner.
Walked from the ground to,lime street after the game

The only voices I heard were German, Norwegian and Irish

Did meet a scouser at lime street, he'd been at the free festival

I was there and as someone said, we only heard them after they scored. Thry were silent apart from that. Unlike the City fans who supported the team for the whole 90 minutes.

We were right at the Main Stand end of the Anfield Road Stand and the number of tourists/day-trippers we could see was phenomenal. Barely a scouse accent to be heard in there I suspect.

Completely agree except I thought they were loud in protesting refereeing decisions. Also I had to laugh when the Main Stand went 'shhhh' as in laughing at how quiet it was, possibly without realising they outnumbered us about 14:1.

The atmosphere is very over rated at Anfield. I don't know where this myth comes from but there are much better atmospheres at many other grounds around the country. It was like a fucking library before the goal. A lot of foreigners around aswell, every time I looked at the home fans someone was always taking a picture or filming the game.

You never hear the Kop from the away end unless it's very loud. Accoustics are poor.

I've been to Anfield several times to see them against Palace. I think its the loudest premiership ground I have been too. The effect of the crowd is greatly underestimated in football. I remember Hansen making a typical arrogant comment about how the crowd has never won a football match, but I don't think that is true. A great crowd can make you play that fraction better and intimidate the opponent. A big reason Liverpool beat Chelsea in 05 CL was due to the crowd.

As a Palace fan I know that we have fantastic support and before we were sold to sell half our squad, it was a small part in why we had such a fantastic home record.

On another note a good crowd will make refs give them home team decisions.

where has this great atnosphere myth come from? ive been 4 times to anfield now every single time the atnosphere is shocking!!!

Was at the game yesterday , just sat watching it again , can't believe what i am hearing from the loud mouth of Niall Quinn , has this guy completely forgotten his roots. I am all for unbiased pundits , but he seems to be taking it to new levels , not happy , not happy at all !!!!

I think people make a little too much of the atmosphere in relation to player performance. Ive heard players say they generally tune it out. Granted it makes for great TV, but I dont buy that it makes teams play to a higher level.

Against Hamburg in the European tie Johl and the Hamburg team said the atmosphere took them by suprise and affected them.It lifted the City team too.It was one of the best i have heard in our new stadium.

I wish it could get there from the off every game.Anfield was a fortress in the standing days of the kop as the noise and intimidation was incredible.
