Liverpool (H) - Carabao Cup 4th Round - Post-Match Thread

Klopp’s comments about VAR not prevent the Palmer chance and how that gave his team a bad feeling is absolutely pathetic. The man is a total cockwomble

Nunez has 9 goals in 19 games, not a bad record but apart from being rapid, he looked dogshit last night
He’ll probably have a game where he bags 3 or 4 this season because his pace and power gets him in some great positions. His finishing is poor though and his touch is horrific.

Klopp said all 3 of city’s goals were unnecessary??? We had 18 shots with 9 on target!! Especially the third one?? KDB’s cross for that one was one of many world class ones he delivered tonight.
I felt a little irked by that too, the commentators mentioned something similar about liverpool being disappointed with their defending. I actually thought our defending was worse for the goals we conceded.

Young Rico just brilliant. Coming on a treat. Would love to see him make it with us. He’s one of our own.
He will mate, I’m almost certain, he’s still very raw and lots to learn but for Pep to trust him at this stage of his career to play AND to move into midfield, I think that speaks volumes, plus, he’s got such a fantastic attitude and seems to play with a smile on his face most of the time, fuckin love this lad.

Edit, I’ve been worried about us replacing Kyle as time ticks on, but the more I see if this young lad, the less I am.

A fun night out, would be my initial analysis!! After a long world cup, I enjoyed getting back to entertaining football (WC final aside)

City deserved winners, Liverpool all over the place in the first half but we gifted them chances with what can only be described as 'generous' defending.

Ake was great, kev fired up, Rodders and Lewis solid. Palmer found plenty of space but his finishing was absolutely rotten though, which was odd. Thought akanji looked tired or something, was poor.

I had no idea at all that Liverpool had the entire top tier until they sang Allez Allez, and then they shut up again.

Fun night out, looking forward to the rest of the season. Happy Christmas blues.

Well, sorry, I must have seen a slightly different match to everybody else. Specifically, Kev. Kev did some brilliant things, that only he can do. The cross over for Nate Aké's goal was a piece of art. By the way, it wasn't bad marking by the Liverpool defence. Nate ghosted in brilliantly. Love that guy more and more.
But Kev was quite often wasteful, and a number of passes went astray. For me, it wasn't one of his vintage performances. He even looked annoyed with himself at times. What he did do was run around like a maniac. He was completely shagged out at the end.
I wouldn't have given him MOTM, though (and I didn't). Quietly, unspectacularly, Gundo was everywhere, building and starting movements from deep midfield. I love it that these guys, Kev and Gundo, have come back from a disappointment, and it's already completely behind them. Back to the real business for them.
One point about Liverpool's goals. They were the unnecessary ones! They were both about City's defenders simply being beaten for speed one on one at some point in the action. Knowing that they have speedy forwards (and that that is exactly what happened at Anfield this season), I find it odd that Pep doesn't take at least some account of it. I know he doesn't change his tactics, but it's just so obvious.
Anyway, not quibbling, buzzing about beating the World's Greatest Club Team yet again. I just feel that we were actually a fair bit better than them in all areas than that scoreline suggests. 3-1 or 2-0 would have been more in line with how the game played out.
