Liverpool (H) - Carabao Cup 4th Round - Post-Match Thread

You do have a different view. KDB dropped a master class. His game is all about risk and reward. He will never end a game with 95% pass completion.
Absolutely. It's a bit like the grief Sterling got for losing the ball when dribbling - there are players who are expected to control the match, and rarely misplace a ball (like Mahrez and Grealish), and there are others who have the licence to take risks. Kev is a risk taker, and the fact that so many of his risky balls come off is what makes him one of the world's best.

I think what I'm saying is that it's the difficult passes he gets right. It's some of the easy passes he gets wrong. It's not easy to understand that. Anyway, just watched the highlights again. He did play well.
Also, I recognise I'm wrong about the first Liverpool goal. It was nothing to do with a foot race, or speed. Must have been thinking of other moments that didn't lead to goals. We just weren't tight enough in defence. Looks like a soft goal to me.

Nope I heard him, he specifically referred to a potential Haaland offside in the 6th minute, which apparently changed the whole game, even though VAR wouldn’t have been involved. He didn’t refer to any other VAR incident
I meant that referring to a 6 minute call that ended in nothing was Klopp being a bit odd, not your comment.

He did however, go on to say, "But there were a couple of offside decisions, where everyone in the stadium was convinced they were offside. We'll never know probably because we can't play them back." Clearly that refers to Liverpool offsides, as the whole stadium isn't going to be shouting about a City player being off.

We looked a lot better should of won by more with the gundo chance and palmer chance but take anything long as we beat them kdb and Rico class loved when palmer twisted and turned Roberton and left him on his ass when under pressure

Just watched it on City+
PROPER football is back ! Really impressive game.

Delighted we hade the Right attitude, we really didn't loose our bottle this time against those twats , EVERYBODY up for it ; we didn't quite completely outclass them , but we were visibly the better side, only Kelleher prevented 4-2 or 5-2 ; everyone had a good game

Harry - absolutely Rambo, really on a mission ; didn't just use the
ball with thought and precision as only he can,but put in some Gerry Gow strength challenges to win it too. MOM

Rico - super impressed, really took responsibility in the DM role when in
possession ; great positional awareness & passing range. Not intimidated at
all by the oppositon, loved his challenge on Salah. VERY mature for an 18 y.o.

Cole - very good, pace & control , plenty of attacking threat , unlucky
with the chance , but he made the right run and was in the right place.
Loved how he was willing to run at defenders , not only Grandpa, but whoever they put on when Gramps took to his rocking chair.
Very promising, heaps of quality there for Pep to work on. More starts for this guy.

Gundo - Determined , reliable , there when needed , & quality
Mahrez - Supreme quality goal , anonymous otherwise.
Rodri - Command & control as usual
Ortega - Composed and solid ; definitely reliable backup/competition for Ed.
Only complaint - WHY can't we display that at their place ?

On a final note , Andy Morrison on City+ is a damn fine pundit ; quick, observant, insightful and throughly impartial analysis - very intelligent reader of the game and wipes the floor with some of the clowns on BBC , etc., etc.

De Bruyne really didn't want to be at that world cup did he? The Belgium version looked like Eddie McGoldrick compared to the lad who turned up last night

When asked before it whether he thought Belgium would win it, he said tersely, “No chance!”. That tells you everything you need to know.
I'm a bit sad about it, because four to six years ago really was their moment. I doubt Belgium will have another generation like that for a long, long time.

Just remembered something from last night. Why did it take so long to get Jack on? He was waiting at the side for ages and the dippers were pressing us. One of our players should have sat down (a la Milner) to take some of the heat off. I think these are the kind of tricks we need to get in our game.

A lot were guilty of that mate, I saw it too. It's been an issue all season for the team. We play some spectacular football but then have periods where we just pass it out of play or completely misread the position someone is going to be in and give it away. De Bruyne did it a couple of times, Gundogan did it quite a few times as well. It's sloppy and we need to try and eliminate it from our game. We battered them last night, but it took real quality for us to score our goals. Theirs were a piece of piss, with barely any attempt at defending. Those elements were there before the break, we need to stop the sloppy passes and get more control to our game to stop conceding so easily.

With De Bruyne he always plays on the edge so I think that will be part of his game at times. Having Haaland means there's often a desire to play at 100mph when we need to go back to our control and tempo of previous seasons. Haaland's a beast, he'll provide the tempo himself. In time it will gel.
