Liverpool (H) - Carabao Cup 4th Round - Post-Match Thread

Not disagreeing but us being hit on the break seems to be our Achilles heel.

Any tactics comes with tradeoffs. We were mostly brilliant last night and should have won by 2+ goals. Generally, we tend to concede fewer chances than any other team while scoring the most goals. It will take a tactical genius to do better. No tactics can guarantee only wins, even if we have the best players in every single position from the goalie to the striker.

When asked before it whether he thought Belgium would win it, he said tersely, “No chance!”. That tells you everything you need to know.
I'm a bit sad about it, because four to six years ago really was their moment. I doubt Belgium will have another generation like that for a long, long time.
Could easily be a new and competitive team in 2026. Didnt think Argentina were the best team, just need youthful energy, quality up front and a togetherness to outperform.

That tournament will be full of players currently 17-20 that we dont yet know about

What a fantastic game of football that was. A brilliant advert for English football and just what we needed after a brilliant World Cup. It had goals, tasty tackles, players squaring up and some sublime skill. The goal from Mahrez was sensational and KdB creates chances from anywhere on the pitch. We also had some panto villains (Nunaz and Fabinho) to complete the festivities!

The MOTM was KdB by a country mile, he was sensational. I'm glad there was no hangover from missing out with Belgium and he looked worlds apart from the player that Martinez mismanaged. I also thought Lewis and Ake did well in defence as well. Other than Foden, I think Lewis has the best chance of 'making it' with us. For his age, he looks very good and doesn't look out of place in our team. If Walker is out, I'd rather play Lewis than have Stones at right back etc and shuffle the defence around.

I love Ederson, but Ortega looks a class act doesn't he? Unflappable and although he didn't have much to do last night, we've seen him pull off great saves before. If Ederson isn't concentrating at any point this season, he'll be on the bench. Again, the club have found another great buy.

The only downside was how many chances Nunez fluffed and the ease of their 2nd goal. If Salah had had the chances Nunez had, we would've lost that game. He had 3 fairly straightforward 1 on 1s and should've had at least 1 in my opinion, but it was simple stuff really. Also their 2nd was just a knock and run over the top, nothing complicated and nothing clever but we fall for it every...single..time.

Anyway, great game and on to Southampton!

COME ON CITY!
Bang on. I'd only add that I thought Palmer worked hard and I have a lot of time for Ake. He has the makings of a City cult figure if we hold onto him.

More from the Echo, obsessed much?

I mean I'm not bothered if it doesn't happen but it's fun for the kids.

I thought it was great. It helps bulld the tension. Excite the crowd and make something more of the whole match day experience.
You can’t knock city for this. It’s really good. The music outside, the city square thing.
Yeah its kinda cheesy but fuck it. Why not?
All other grounds you walk in and sit down and at least this is fun.

Liverpool echo bitching about the gundo announcement. It’s an actual fact. He did score the title winning goal and the announcement would be the same regardless of which club were second or whether we played them or not.

Whining weapons of the utter scum victims. All that have is one fucking chant and that’s only one word. Their masterpiece is singing a song before the game. Utter spunktrumpets.

Amazingly, it was THIS that Klopp was whinging about...

I don't think it was. That was in the first minute - he was referring to the chance where Palmer got his feet mixed up for the finish after Haaland passed across goal.

I don't know if it was offside, but it was close.
