Ederson, Walker, Dias, Stones, Cancelo, Rodri, Philips, Silva, Grealish, Alvarez, Foden. Plus Laporte.
Tidy team unavailable. Shows our strength in depth.
Rodri and Laporte should be available, Spain went out of the World Cup in the Ro16

I know we can only work with what is available, but a midfield 3 of Rodri, KDB and Gundo worries me given lack of pace and/or legs. Particularly as one of the front 3 is likely to be Mahrez. Just think that’s too slow a set-up and we’ll get overrun.
Have you not seen their midfield lately? It’s finished, they need a £200M rebuild, plus they won’t see much of the ball, as long as we have some pace in the back line we’ll be fine

So Trippier and Wilson played for Newcastle last night yet none of our English players at the world cup are seemingly going to be involved. Stones I can understand but Grealish should be here.

I understand the theory but winning a cup, any cup, would make the Newcastle manager the biggest hero the city has ever seen. They won’t care if they lose every match after winning the League Cup.

Guardiola knows from experience that winning a dozen or so matches on the spin in April and May, when everyone else is flagging, could well define City’s season.

As frustrating as it will be if we lose tomorrow with an understrength side, I’ll give him the benefit of the doubt until we see how the season ends up.

I would also say that the Newcastle players didn’t play as much last season so there isn’t the accumulation of minutes/miles on their players as there is on ours so any time we can give them a break during this two year mad-dash, I’ll take it

Just caught the end of his press conference, and Guardiola said the players who were at the World Cup are in better shape than those who didn't go, so still a bit of hope that we'll see a stronger XI than expected tomorrow evening.
