Liverpool (h) - CL QF post match thread

Decisions have gone our way, don't notice many on here crying after we beat Everton in league cup semi at the etihad, when the ball was clearly run out of play before crossing and scoring a game changing goal, we have had our share of luck, thing is people only remember the decisions against us

Haha fucking hell you're on the wind up, surely?

Good points mate but I think what gets me is that all this blaming of the refs, seem to take the focus away from the real issues in the team. We all want to blame the refs for our poor performance in the last 3 games, when we should be looking at the lack of "steel" when things started to go wrong in the biggest games of the season. I dont think anyone can argue the refs seem against us but the errors, misses, poor 2nd half play that has happened in the last 3weeks, should be something we are all concerned about..I'm fed up and frustrated by the refs just like most on here but I'm more frustrated by the clear issues the team is having at the moment...

I'm not concerned, we have the resources, the best Manager and will be the biggest net winners when VAR is introduced.

JESUS IS 21 YEARS OLD!!!! And he's not had a consistent run in the team due to injuries. He's the future no doubt about it.

He has been a professional footballer for 5 years now, a talent and an asset to the team no question about that but he is never going to be a 35 goals a session striker and that is what we need next season.

I hope this time next year I’m proved wrong but I personally don’t see it.

We couldn’t have done any more in the first 45. I thought we were superb.
That's the thing that frustrates me the most besides the offside call and no-call penalties. We were so good and played our best half against them all season when 11v11, and we come out deflated in the second half.
The sending off of Pep had to be one of the worst decisions all day. Sending him to the stands for an argument half as aggressive as any player is an absolute disgrace.

That's Everton and one decision though, the same Everton who inexplicably got to play against 10 men after Walker was sent off for nothing to earn a point in the league.

We may have had the odd decision but haven't had our fair share of luck of that I am certain.. few and far between when it comes to game changers that's for sure.

Sterling had an outstanding game. Worked hard, made our goal, stopped multiple counterattacks. Well done, lad!

Sané, who is clearly the superior ball player of the two, needs to watch that and learn that precocious skill isn’t an end game.

Jesus worked hard, but looks lost when up against big defenders and the ball doesn’t get played in behind them.

David Silva looks a shell of his early season self. Lad has much on his mind, and no Spring chicken anymore. Brilliant player who has lost his shine in the last few months. Understandable, if frustrating timing.

Bernardo Silva: Outstanding outlet, who worked his socks off and almost scored an excellent goal...the width of the post.

Otamendi: Solid, until he lost his mind. Has reverted back to “Bad Nico” a few times recently. Needs to regroup.

Walker: No football brain and loses composure with pressure, because he knows he is technically the weakest player in the team.

Laporte: Solid, assured, looks the real deal. A real player who should compliment Mendy very well down our left....one day!

KDB & Fernandinho: Been carrying this team on their backs for months. Can’t do it all game, every game.

Ederson: Understand he was angry at challenge on Ota, esp after same player laid him out earlier in the season, but he could easily have been sent off by a Euro ref for repeatedly raising his hands. Needs to concentrate on other areas of his game. If he could have gathered in the ball on Mane’s run, we would still have been in the game. Wouldn’t swap him for anyone, but needs to refocus.
Pretty fair assessment. The Walker part is the most worrying one for me.

City had to score at least three tonight and that was the inescapable conditioning factor. I thought the side Pep picked was surprising not to say strange - but the start and the whole of the first half showed that I don't know what I'm talking about and Pep most certainly does. It was high risk but it had to be and we all knew a Liverpool goal after half time would kill the tie, and so it did. I was proud of City in that first half and I'm not going to criticise them, and certainly not Pep now. What I will say is that the tie is a disgrace to European football with the behaviour of some Liverpool fans, the Liverpool club and police dragging us back to the darkest days of the 1980s and the refereeing is yet again a stain on the reputation of the tournament.

They’re cheating bastards. There’s a reason they’ve made VAR look like a joke from the start, it’s because they want the fans to say “fucj it we don’t like it” so they can carry on with their cheating. Too much money involved for these fuckers to play fair. Games like this show exactly why we need VAR. not saying we would have won with it but we were denied a realistic fair chance at winning.
Exactly

Forget who it came off, at no time was he offside. What the fuck does the official behind the goal do.
I think if the ball had been played by a City player, then Sané would have been correctly called offside

A player is in an offside position if:
  • any part of the head, body or feet is in the opponents’ half (excluding the halfway line) and
  • any part of the head, body or feet is nearer to the opponents’ goal line than both the ball and the second-last opponent

I wouldn’t mind it was proved it hadn’t gone out of play at the time & didn’t they get a dodgy goal in the first leg & we had a pen turned down.

Anyway apart from that outrageous lucky decision lol wtf happened recently?

And yet they'll win fuck all this season whereas we'll have a league and cup double.
Yes but if we want to do well in this competition the defending needs to be much better
I will say it again Venables spent a week working on defensive shape after going 3 nil down in a first leg. He knew the best way to go through was a clean sheet. Ship goals like we do against an average Liverpool side is not that impressive.

Professional for 5 years. You're not a professional at anything when you're 16,17,18 etc.. I respect your opinion, but if he stays fit he scores 25 next year in the league. He has to stay fit, it's everything. He's got the composure, the temperament and the movement.

I feel all alone
I work with 2 x dippers and 2 x rags the shit I've taken has been so much fun for 30 years but this week feels the worst I've had to endure
Oh well beats Kevin Horlock being sent off for aggressive walking!!
"We are not we're not really here"

This is what pisses me off, after every defeat we always pull the world is against us card, it's never we got it wrong, it's never we were not good enough, first thing everyone does is blame someone else
