Liverpool (h) - CL QF post match thread

Really thought this was our year before the LFC games
The fates seem to conspire against us, beginning with driving into a virtual war zone at Klanfield
Salah goal offside, Pep fucking about with the team, good goal tonight disallowed, Otamendi fucked up twice
Oh well next year .....maybe.
Im sure big questions will be asked by the Arabs after this.

The game was lost in the first leg. Many of us knew we wouldn't keep a clean sheet in the second leg which then makes it impossible, I expected us to win the second leg though not lose it.

Can't fault the effort, like Saturday two magnificent first half performances but obviously spent in the second of both games. We got absolutely fuck all from the officials in both legs. Hard to say it is corrupt but it does make you wonder. Mane could easily have been sent off but I thought Ederson was lucky too.

This has to be our worst week in a long time.

Going forward our defence is a worry. Millions thrown at it but at the moment almost every chance is going in. Ederson for all his bal playing skills is looking a bit iffy in other aspects. Up front we are just not clinical enough for all our pressure.

Liverpool are no great shakes but have beaten us 5-1 on aggregate which is baffling. If we had that bloody Salah I am sure we would have done it ourselves.

We need to rest and regroup now for the final push because we are looking a bit shattered mentally and physically .

We really should've been playing that much better for these stupid decisions to not mean anything. The fact we're debating so much about bad calls means that we just weren't good enough to keep our fate in our hands.

Yep, sorry. I forgot that we're the only team that has to play at 100% all the fucking time. We're the only team that has to anticipate the bad refereeing.

We certainly are not ruthless enough in front of goal, we would already be PL champions if we had been.

But our attacking play has been brilliant this season and has covered up our defensive frailties, until this is sorted forget the Chumps.

Three matches lost on the run what are the odds we can bounce back against Spurs?

Zero

We had 0 shots on target at anfield, and it's not about chances you make, it's chances that end up in the net, they put 5 in the net we put 1, simple really
I don't agree with that being the only stat that matters though... their first two goals at anfield were against the run of play... we were dictating play if anything they hadn't created anything in that opening period BUT score on the counter with an offside goal which changed everything(they are changing the narrative... but rewatch it if you can stomach it and it's flattering to them the way it's being told especially tonight). It was also the fact that they made out Liverpool created loads, 2nd half at Anfield Ederson barely had anything to do... similar story tonight yet he had to pick the ball out of the net from 2 attacks.

Otamendi has reverted to awful mode in the last few weeks.
He remains far too error prone.
Needs to go.

The difference in the defence, or breaking down the press is Stones. He is exceptional at that. We played fantastically before his injury and we never gave him the chance to get back to full fitness because the odd mistake crept back into his game. Think of Napoli home and away. He broke their press down.
Defensively, he needed Pep to believe....I'm not having a dig, but it doesn't seem like he has got himself back into his good books.

I confess I was one of these shaking my head at the price Liverpool paid for Van Dijk but he is looking very good value. He’s even making Lovren look good. We just can’t seem to get it right in this position.
