Liverpool (H) | PL | Post Match Thread

Rico Lewis is making me doubt Pep Guardiola.

Mind, I don't hate the lad. I respect him, I respect his balls to accept Pep's decision to send him on suicide missions, way above his capabilities.

That said, all of our "old guard" lads, from Kevin to Rico are, somehow, past it, the new lads can't do enough with team mates with substandard showings. For us it is so hard to score but so easy to concede.

In that last book about by some catalan bloke about Pep -the one that jinxed us; it is mentioned that Pep needed a "Yugoslav defence" in order to win the Champions League, and that Ruben Dias was the core of it. We won the UCL, the 4th in a row, but our defence is anything but Yugoslav (except Khusanov) made of glass and permanently on the treatment table, and can't no longer defend.

Perhaps that old guard need a holiday break from Pep, at least the younger ones, and come recharged by 2026.

Anyway, Come On City!

Most typical City-Liverpool game ever.

City dominate from the start, Liverpool score against the run of play, on their first attempt, through a lucky, massive deflection (looked like an offside for the corner too).

City continue to dominate, Liverpool score, once again against the run of play. So fucking predictable
Keeping the ball is not my definition of domination maybe it is yours but 100% not mine. Van dijk and konate could’ve played that game with slippers on

Take 2-0. How bad’s that?!

Our tactic was to rightly get Doku on the ball but then what? Nobody in the middle to score. All game. Didn’t change.

Baffling. They’re better than us but played on the counter. Did us a favour.
How we’ve gone from 2 years unbeaten at home to this weekly shambles is astonishing

Basics

The result wasnt as bad as I feared - that is the only positive other than the performance of Doku (though only in parts) and, Gonzales, Khusonov

The issues - Im bored of hearing about there is no fight, no desire etc - bullshit excuses for the inability to admit the simple fact that some of these players are not good enough and not up to standard.

KDB - again and again its been said by people - he is finished, done - he cant even last 65 mins and he is adding nothing
Gvardiol - some games he is great - others he is poor - he was the latter today - no excuses about him playing against Salah - it is inexcusable to not be putting effort in to close the winger down/wide player down. if you cant defend then he shouldnt be on the pitch.
Ake - is done - all over the place

Rico Lewis - people want him to succeed more as he is a local lad - but its like watching a talented 14 year old play against professional footballers. He has attributes but he cant do anything with the ball once in space.....he hasno future in what needs to be a significant rebuild.

Marmoush - is going to need to hugely improve - loads of hype about him after Newcastle - but he doesnt look after the ball well enough - that needs to improve or he wont be the player we need

Foden - a well documented bad season but whatever is going on with him will hopefully dort itself out.

Savihnio - we need a serious footballer...he has all the ability in the world but is he serious about being the best? - little output on a regular basis - no goal threat and its great to be able to beat a man but he does nothing with it.

Doku- showed a lot of fight and a bright spark but he needs to tidy up what he does in the last actions...

And as for the subs - oh deat - Gundo and Kovacic might not as well bothered.

Im more than comfortable with all of this....its been coming a mile off and been very obvious - we have had some unparralled success but there is actual bigger change needed than people realise

Of that team that started today (or even finished it) - how many get into our treble team?
Ederson
Foden
Haaland (as he would normally of started today)
Rodri
Gvardiol IF he starts to show consistnecy (which is weird saying this about a defender)

Do any of the rest in the squad get into that starting 11 when everyone is fully fit -

IMHO there has been a serious drop off in quality and not just the age profile of the squad and injuries are responsible.

Nowhere near as bad as I feared beforehand.
Chastening that we’re so far behind them at the moment. But at least we moved the ball and pressed with a bit more urgency.

Do you mean the build up to the corner?

As You can't be offside from an actual corner.

Can Pep have the energy to turn this around? Or do we twist on a new option?

Kompany would be the emotional choice, but there are others there that might be a better answer.

I think Pep warrants another season at least given the last 4 years. We’re being greedy like them lot otherwise. That’s my thoughts.

You can't be offside from a corner, the ball is considered on the goal line, therefore any ball that stays in play is classed as backwards.

I've just watched their first goal back, and I just don't understand the criticism for Ederson, and if there is any, he's last on the list. His vision is blocked, and Szobo puts it near the post. The far more concerning thing is everything else leading up to that point.

Most notably was Gonzalez's shocking effort to get back so early in the match.
look its rare you can blame him for goals.

but look at Raya, Martinez, Allison, Courtois.

They pull off unbelievable saves and really good saves sometimes to keep their teams from conceding during pressure moments.

this guy never does. theres a reason our goals conceded to shots ratio is so terrible its him!!

  • Rico Lewis against van dijk on corners - big lol
  • Foden seems to have lost his first touch and desire
  • Khusanov is a player
  • Kdb sadly looks finished
  • Dunno what grealish has done to Pep but he can’t do any worse than what we’re seeing in the middle
  • Doku’s end product HAS to improve, what are we doing in training with him?
