Liverpool (H) | PL | Post Match Thread

Do not think we did a bad game we had possesions like we are used to, we just not where creative enough. the corner version was good, not easy to defend to that.
wish we did better corners and have some ideas to corner version, we had poor corners today. In games like this we miss Haaland.
Kuzhanov MoM today no question about it
Doku and Savinho where good but I’m getting a bit frustrated that we don’t get More goals by there work, the end product is to uneffectiv.
The 3 last changes we made I just can’t understand, we need more creativity on our midfield KDB is not the player he was sorry to say, but it’s a fact Kova,Gundogan the same,
My god foden has a shit season he was not good today.

Shit performance and we need to get rid of our old players and that might not be enough . We are miles adrift
We need to get rid of the new ones as well!!

That’s the biggest concern, if we assume we want to be back where we were, then only 2 or 3 of that starting XI are good enough. This won’t be fixed by next season, that’s for sure.

Personally I think both players a big problem, They are both young although I think Savinho is ahead of Doku, The issue is goals from wide areas, I don't think wither will ever be capable of hitting bog numbers goals wise compared to what we used to have with Mahrez and Sterling.
Well, I think its tactics. Its a strategy thing. We don't use our wingers to simply dump the ball into the box. Even when Haaland is out there. So our wingers are left with either challenging 1v1 into the box, or faking a challenge and passing it back out for our endless wing-center-wing circulation. People seem to be giving Doku a hard time because he has no "end product". But how can one have that if you're the only player risking a dribble into the box and there's 6 oppo players there to deflect any pass? Its all quite frustrating.

We’d play til midnight and not score.

Thought khusanov looked very solid.
Nico looked ok without doung much good/bad.
Marmoush needs to sharpen up big time.

Of the old guard;
Sav looked bright enough but had nothing to aim for.
Foden, jeez hes fallen off a cliff hasnt he. Like us all he probs needs the season end to come.
Doku, energetic, but could have 10 to aim for in the box but still hit the legs of the first defender.
Gvardiol played ok v salah.

Puzzling that grealish didnt get a run. Looks like hes gone

I think we played ok to be honest. Much better than I was expecting when I saw the line-up. We dominated the game but just couldn't really create the chances. We got a bit unlucky with the deflection for the opening goal (but where was the marking?). 2nd goal the marking was lacking too.

I thought Khussanov played very well, as did the wingers. Ake and Lewis were fine too. Gvardiol is good on the ball but his defending leaves a lot to be desired and he is prone to making the odd silly pass that puts us under pressure. Foden tried but nothing came off for him and Gonzalez was steady but needs to perhaps get a bit more adventurous with his passing at times.

We know KDB can't really run these days but he can't seem to pass, cross or shoot either. Gundogan adds nothing on either side of the ball. Kovacic is at best a back-up option to give Gonzalez some rest.

Ultimately, we are now set up to play with a target man. We have wingers that want to take defenders on and put crosses in and that is fine when we have Haaland but without him, the wingers have nobody to aim at. Marmoush also seems to like running at players but we have nobody to put that killer pass in when Haaland doesn't play.

We can't play the false 9 anymore because we don't have the likes of Mahrez and Grealish to cut inside, the creativity of KDB, the runs of Gundogan and Rodri just behind them. Trying to play a false 9 with the attacking players we have, just won't work against a packed defence.

I'm disappointed to lose though not really surprised. I thought we might get a real pasting with the dippers midfield dominating. That didn't happen and I thought there were some positive signs.

Thought we played quite well for a young, fresh team against the PL winners, with a botched up back 4.

Get them in early, better chance next season.

i love how Sky have invented goals+assists stats in the past 6 months so that they can pretend Salah is top of some list we’ve never heard before

Has anyone ever seen the all time goals+assists list before? Apparently Shearer and Cole (Andy) are one and two on 47

they’re also whipping out goals and assists per minute now.

no mention of Goals per minute list i wonder who the top 2 is on that list??!

Was expecting us to concede at least 4 so a bit better than expected. It's apparent none of our attacking players is good enough and offers no goal threat at all (except Haaland of course), at least not this season. Not a good combination when we also cant defend.

The midfield isn’t up to much either :(

Not sure we learned too much from that. The young lads have potential. The new signings did ok. We have no legs in midfield and most decent teams know and exploit that. The high line costs us goals week after week but we persist with it even with players who are clearly not 100% fit. We can’t take advantage of set pieces. CBA digging individual players out as I feel a bit sorry for them tbh
Is Grealish anywhere near match fit yet?
Where is Oscar Bobb?

The frustrating thing is I think Liverpool are bang average. They didn’t play well, we just didn’t fucking remotely get into the game.

It really pisses me off.

That’s the worst Liverpool team we’ve played in 10 years and we made it piss easy for them.

Sadly today was the biggest sign for me that KDB is finished at City.
One of the greatest to have ever pulled on our shirt but he just can’t deliver what’s needed any longer.
Giving all set pieces away says it all.
Sad day.
