Liverpool (H) - Post-Match Thread

Not disastrous but not great either.

Think it was a fair reflection of where we are as a team - some way below the level of 18/19 and overly-reliant on Kev and Sterling. Top four is the realistic target.

We're improving at the back and Cancelo was very good, but we have to slow things down to compensate for the lack of athleticism in the team. And the football has been in decline for 18 months now.

Think this time next year we'll have a new manager and 3/4 new players, hopefully with more dynamism and aggression.

I think we were the better team overall - just, Kev missing the pen was crucial, weird ending to the game, we needed fresh legs, Pep didn't use our subs (apart from Bernie!) which again was weird. I really do not like Gundog and Rodri together in midfield, Cancelo had a great game, as did Dias and Laporte, Jesus scored a great goal and did a lot of running, Sterling a lot of running but no end product.

liverpools tactics caught us out,as soon as pep got hold of it liverpool werent in the game, the team is knackered, a fresher team and we would of mullered liverpool, all these pathetic posts, there wasnt more we could do,they were all fucked, people cant be that fucking blind.

liverpool go for 50/50 balls and they are told to scream for a foul, not just the team the whole bench as well

Not a bad result, just mean we can't lose at Anfield in the return fixture.

Pretty painful to miss a penalty and a sitter by Jesus but we were by far the better team.

Referee absolute dogshit as a lot predicted pre-match, Mane must have made 10 fouls and still didn't get a booked. Was actually amazed he gave the pen even though it was stonewall.

Really feel now that Raheem has to be dropped for Liverpool and United games. It's like playing with 10 men he is so poor. What is his record, 1 goal in like 20 games?
scored 2 v Liverpool plus another deflected goal in July 4-0

Given how big a part penalties are playing this season we need to start practising them in training. And if we already do, then we need to start practising them a lot more.

I never ever expect Ederson to save them, and it's a total toss of a coin if we will score them. That was the difference today and it will be again. A team that is this poor at penalties will never win anything.

Thought Sterling looked like he needed a rest.

I'd like to see him pull out of the England squad and put his feet up for a bit.

I thought both teams looked pretty exhausted, to be honest, and while we just edged it, I think, a draw isn't a terrible result. What is looking increasingly clear, and what both managers I think recognize, is that this will not be a 100 point season and no one will have run away with it by Christmas. We look much more comfortable at the back, and we are making less chances, so we really need to take opportunities when they arrive, which Jesus did brilliantly and DeBruyne fluffed his lines. But I'm not happy but comfortable with that.

Our big issue last season is the same this season. Midfield.

Rodri & Gundy are slow. Good players but pace is a real issue in the middle.

Kev is class but he’s spread too much around the pitch which leaves gaps. I’d like to see Kev sit more central in silvas role because pep will not let foden play sadly.

I thought we played quite well after the first 15 minutes or so. But ultimately, they finished the game with Milner and right back, and two pretty average centre halves, and we still didn't put them under any meaningful pressure.

We are a shadow of the team we were two years ago. A game there for the taking but at this level you can't miss a penalty and a sitter and expect to win. To be honest after the first 20 minutes I would have been happy with a draw I feared a drubbing. Win our game in hand we are in the mix but by God we need to improve 70% to win the title.
Agree with that - You could argue that our defence will be better but midfield and our attacking intent just isn’t there to the same levels.

Last season David was on the wane and that was probably a factor in our season. Very difficult to replace that and KDB looks over burdened at the moment.

Maybe it’s the constant games, lack of pre-season etc but there’s just not that spark at the moment. Hopefully it will come.

Some are clueless pal. Thought we controlled most of that apart from the first 20 mins. Decent performance from us.
I’m sorry but “controlling” the game by virtue of playing a rondo in defence and having little desire to actually hurt the opposition is not what I want City to be about. That is Louis Van Gaal football and wont get any plaudits from me. I’d rather lose but have an identity than draw and be devoid of one.
