Always the same pattern: dippers start at 150% and aggressive pressure hoping to score and defend the lead.

Although still quite rusty we nearly managed to not concede in the 1st 60 minutes. The goal was lazy defending vs a top side by our whole team and inviting top players to finish is just not acceptable.

After the hour mark dippers always nearly collapse and can't high press anymore. We had more but didn't take or chances and lost on a stupid penalty (the rule is just nonsense, Pawson didn't have a choice) and on the break.

Next time we'll meet will be different I think.
So no CS then. Good game to watch though and great atmosphere.
Agree. Having time to reflect on the game, we lost because we were simply not up to speed. Match sharpness and decision making poor. Misplaced passes on each buildup phase. Individual battles lost. Liverpool are a good team and punished us easily.

So no qualms about the result. Certain individuals need to up their contribution to the team. Work in progress, the first few games will be used to iron out any problems. I am intrigued as to how pep is going to get the team to gel. Nothing is guaranteed in football.

Unrivalled success under Pep so can’t really complain.

That's a really good analysis of the match. A lot smarter than most of the broadcasting idiots. It's hard to argue with any of his broad points.

The thing I noticed during the game was the positioning of Bernardo and Rodri, in the first half.

Not sure why the more ball carrying, creative of the two midfield pivots, was the one closer to Ederson. It negated any midfield drive/ link to De Bruyne, who (also having a poor game for him, perhaps because of the pivot) had to make snap decisions in passing, rather than build up in the mid with Silva, like last year.

I thoroughly enjoyed the game. Great curtain raiser for the Prem

The result, pah, neither here nor there for me. We treated it as a pre season game to get up to speed, whereas Liverpool seemed 100% ready for the Prem to start

Just watched the game. Don’t think we were as bad as people are making out lol, but yeah we do need a left back

Forgot to say:
the stupid non-pundit telling me on tv AAs shot was deflected by Aké by "the skin of his head" is simply incompetent or biased.

Without that decisive deflection Eddie would have easily picked it down. It was not a brilliant goal, but just a lucky one.

No it isn't, that is the con, a small minority goes to charities. The FA are happy for people to think it is a charity event and don't publish where the money goes.
Someone on here will be able to find those percentages. But if Wembley was never going to be an option, then why didn't they maximise the bucks by playing at Old Trafford? Would have been far less hassle for the fans, but since when has the FA bothered about them?

And of course the nasty dipper rat didn’t get booked for goading the City fans, wanker.

I felt Edersons distribution has gone backwards, he’s carried on from the end of last season, he’s confident on the ball but isn’t picking people out, needs to sort that out as he’s key for counters.
