I’m getting the distinct feeling certain people are already setting Haaland up as this years new whipping boy. When they’re not slagging Jack off obviously.
There will be some very frustrated ‘City fans’ disappearing from here come May. Like there has been for four of the last five seasons.

‘Twas ever thus.

Well... that commentary sets the tone for the season ahead. Absolutely DISGUSTING double standards.

Buckle up Blues. We are getting FUCK ALL from the media this season.
Carney..what a tit ..they would have been a penalty...''but he got his hand to it first""..said co commentator....'xyes but it looked a pen!'' Carcrash added... FFS what a shit comnent..very poor

Liverpool didn't outplay us. (They started the game better and finished it better. This created the illusion that they were the better team, it's how our memory works: the start and the finish of an event make stronger impressions on us than what's between them. Sorry for this academic point.)

Granted, in some periods Liverpool looked sharper than us, but didn't create more chances before the last 5-6 minutes. Before their penalty, the shots on target were 7:2 City, with other stats roughly equal or in our favour. After the penalty they created the better situations and deserved another goal. At that point there was no balance in our team: there was a big gap in our midfield, where Rodri was very tired and Gundo wasn't sharp at all (IIRC, the attack for their pen came after a misplaced pass by Gundo). Phillips would be a better choice next to Rodri, but Gundo's a leader, it's understandable why Pep went with him.

The surprise was that Haaland missed great chances. Shit happens though. He will only get better.

Liverpool didn't have a win vs City for a long period (30 months?). They won two cup games since April, the first vs many squad players, yesterday they were a bit luckier. About time we win both league games against them. It will mean curtains for their challenge for the league.

Generally speaking, we were below par. Singling out individuals is a bit bizarre because nobody in the team looked on it and a few were well shy. Nevertheless, for decent periods, we were at least as good as our biggest rivals, who have had more preparation. We know how we run our season and we might not like some of the early results but getting angry about it, every year, is...

The positives were definitely Alvarez and Foden, who made a difference when they came on.
Haaland's runs were consistently excellent - he just wasn't found. He will also begin to bury those chances when they come.

Here is the list. the whipping boys will change position every week depending on performance.

1. Ederson
2. grealish
3. Mahrez
4. Haaland
5. Cancelo

I don't blame Haaland - he barely saw the ball.

5 wins out of 17 is still pretty poor considering we are nearly always the better side over the course of 38 games. We should be winning more of the head to heads than them, not the other way around.

Anyway, no biggie. Tin pot trophy which I expected us to lose, and we duly did.
Credit must go to Klopp. NO I don't like him, im not a closet ''micky'' but he knows how to exploit us...no CDM for us today..he made his team exploit that..fair play. But he does always find a way tbf

United will play their 6th friendly I think, not sure it is optimal we going into the season basically with 2 only or 3 with yesterday included.

and then that decision to play an extra way into the season vs Barca 3 days after and 3 days before a PL game.

bit rubbish schedule of friendlies this summer, not sure why...
even the US tour was kind of rubbish with the Bayern game delayed, stopped, delayed, stopped wasnt a good preparation game.

lets hope giving extra weeks of holiday will pay off in the end , albeit it can give us a patchy start in PL if we are a bit off our best for a few games.
especially those WHU and Newcastle away games...

first round will be like Pool, Chelsea, United, Spurs, Arsenal all winning their games probably by the time we play WHU away.
hope Pep will work hard in the trainings and the players too to make sure its not gonna be a shit weekend for us.
I think winning the prem 4out of 5 times earns us the right for an extended break.
Peps teams always peak at the end not the begining so a bit of calm is whats needed for a long season ahead.

The past means nothing in relation to the future.

There’s no way Pep likes our pre-seasons. He’s only ever had control of one pre-season (at Bayern) and in that pre-season he played 11 games almost all in Germany. Other than that it’s the suits who run pre-season.
