I don’t like the way some of us underplay results (performances) like this. This is more than a pre season friendly. Whilst it’s not the PL, CL, FA or LC, it is as a Cup to commence the season and is legitimate silverware. The excuses / mitigating circumstances that we roll out don’t mask this fact.

City chose the pre season schedule this year, as we did last year, and if we’re undercooked and not prepared then that’s on us. The end may justify the means (as people will say we lost this last year but won the PL), but let’s not kid ourselves that we didn’t want to win this and that it’s merely a friendly for fitness.

Pep played arguably his strongest team available today and whilst some positives can be taken, there are also a few concerns that, if we’re objectively assessing, are issues that this manager, team and some of the players have had over multiple seasons that seem to hurt us in “one off” matches if not over the course of a season.

The possession/conversion stats. Liverpool with less possession (43% to our 57%) had 4 shots on target to our 8 and ended up winning 3:1. They’ve converted 75% of their shots on target to our 12.5%.
Get with it mate - it's a "meaningless friendly" now. This is no place for rational analysis.

Our midfield was the biggest problem yesterday, poor passing and looking lost that we actually had a striker in the side, they didn't seem to know what to do.
Kev was awful, that shot in to the side netting summed his performance up, Bernardo absolutely invisible, Grealish nothing different from last season, Mahrez, very poor, and Rodri looking totally unfit.
We will have to get used to having Haaland in this side asap, the midfield is key

I feel the main reason Grealish and Mahrez on the wings did not work is because we needed proper ovelapping fullbacks who can whip a good cross in, Cancelo is the man for that on the right so is wasted on the left, Walker is lightning but not great in terms of a final ball in, again emphasises the need for a proper attacking left back (Cucarella).
