Liverpool Post Match Thread

As usual (whether we win or lose) everyone is over reacting. The lack of respect for Pellegrini is mad - won the double, finished second, and now well placed to win the league again despite a bad day at the office. Unless we win 38/38 games in a season there will always be people on this forum calling for the managers head.

Lots of sensible well considered posts on here, no over reacting, and a common theme based on not just today's game but many under Pellegrini's reign, baffling team selection, lack of preparation, strange substitutions. What has angered most on here is the manager's reaction in his post match interview. Yes he was the manager that won a double but he nearly didn't win the league with the best squad and didn't defend it with the best squad, the squad is stronger now but if things don't improve we won't win it again.

Anybody know what happened to Hugh, Danny and Nat for the post match analysis?
Admittedly it would have been grim, but is this the norm that when we suffer a bad defeat no one turns up?
Seem to remember it happening last season although I can't remember which game.

The team selection, like it or not, was because he wants key players available on Wednesday night, whilst some City fans can't "get it" our owner wants to win the CL, and one of the best routes to doing that is by winning our group, also the two key players he left out today, had both played in south America midweek. As for "lack of preparation", yeah I bet they've don f*ck all, all week, the fact people don't do their jobs, or in some cases even try, can't all be laid at the managers door. Baffling subs ? You could have taken any one of the outfield 10 off at half time today, and nobody could complain, they were dog shit to a man, so what would you have done ?

Shit day, of course it was, any defeat to them is a shit day, they've won it 5 times you know, despite never having won the Premier League.

Manager had a shit day.
Players had a shit day.
Supporters had a shit day.
Officials had a shit day.

Awful performance, the entire back four were a shambles. I know Mangala is being singled out a fair bit and rightly so as he was the worst but Demichelis, Sagna and Kolarov weren't much better.
With Kompany missing , why Pellegrini chose to drop Otamendi is just simply baffling. Same with Fernandinho, why drop our best CM, for a huge game like this, especially as we are still missing key players elsewhere.

Pellegrini has to take a portion of the blame for today, with his side he picked, but most of the players (a few especially) were nothing short of a disgrace today and I'd go as far as to say I think some of them have sealed their fate with regards to their future City career.

No positives for me, apart from seeing Sergio back and what a goal too. Also it was good to see Pellegrini finally hook Yaya. Too many times he's gotten away with doing fuck all and managed to stay on. I said to my mate after 10 minutes, Yaya can't be arsed today!

In the spirit of fairness, I have to say Liverpool were very impressive and played a perfect away game, although I don't think they could believe how shit we were today.

Subs today were OK

Quite sure any premiership team would have beaten us today , the team selection and tactics were naive to say the least , resting players for the Juventus game was always going to be a risk with our already long injury list , it back fired badly , Kompany , Otto , Dinho , Clichy & Delph to start against Juve and Saints with Mangala ,MDM , Toure , Kolarov , Sterling on the bench , we need more energy and pace in the side , and a solid , mobile midfield

They played some neat football going forward but when the organisation and defensive part of the opposition's game is non existent you appear to look much more inventive and dominant than you are.

Most championship teams would have beaten us the way we played as we just were not interested in making it a contest.

I suspect Liverpool will have a season that allows them to challenge for Europe but they are at around Crystal Palace's level with that squad if you ask me.

As for us who knows if we don't turn up often enough its going to be another under achieving season.

What would I have done, easy.
Why leave out Ferdy.
Why leave out Otimendi.
Why fuck about with the team, he thought they were going to be a roll over,
Why take Navas off when Sterling was absolute shite, only because it was against his former club.
And whilst I'm on it, lazy arse back passing Ya Ya should not have even been in the squad after his Villa performance.
No offence mate your a Blue like me just different opinion.

No it's not a god given right we will win every week, but we were pretty poor at Villa and were abysmal today. We've also not been too convincing in some of the games we've won. And yes, we've been excellent in others particularly the first couple against West Brom and Chelsea.
But this isn't about expecting to win every week it's about expecting the players to put in a shift, and expecting the manager not to select a lightweight midfield when that has been our problem so many times in the recent past.

I assumed you meant today, as that is what this thread is about, you should have made it clear you thought they were OK today, and I'd have said nothing, I don't read minds.

Ultimately....

Everybody can have an off day mate, but its the ridiculousness of the setup, the changes that should not be made in a huge game, that are winding people up. In fact, anyone can make a mistake and it was pretty clear he had made mistakes in how he set the team up but refusing to change anything until half time after we were already out of the game, at home, and then refusing to talk about it after or even admit fault, is what really irks fans. Today was a shambles, the players were poor but had we been set up right I still think we would have beaten them.

We shall do it at Klanfield

Not if we put out today's team we won't. 'Pool were the far better team and deserved to win. Our selection was wrong and klopp knew how to beat us. WIth his tactics.
We had too many passengers

Our squad is pretty over rated if you ask me. Loads of average players mixed in there. Unfair on Kun and Silva who easily could be playing for Real or Barca.
There's lots of average players in the Liverpool squad but they fucked us over by playing as a well-drilled team, who could manage quick, accurate passing and clever running.
