I happened to be living in Boston when this ownership group took over the Red Sox. The group that had owned them beforehand was basically a family(and total low lifes), but Boston is much like Liverpool they mistrust outsiders to the point they would sooner keep around people that simply are useless, than bring in outsiders. However, they have really won over the fanbase and in large part because they have had success.
The difference is that the financial playing field in the three major American sports is much more level than it is in the PL. Plus there's no equivalent of the FFPR. There's no prospect whatsoever of a ADUG-type splurge on new players.

True and isn't there also a salary cap in Baseball too? Also is there a draft like the NFL / NBA?

Running a football club an a shoestring AND achieving success is pretty hard to do... just look at Villa or even Wigan.

Re: Liverpool Red Sox

I'm a City fan and Boston fan (I was born in Manchester and grew near Boston). The group that took over the Red Sox were a god send and will invest heavily in the team. The Chelsea and City equivalents in baseball are the NY Yankees (aka the Yanks in America) and the Red Sox. They other teams don't come close spending-wise.

There was the issue of a new stadium and it was rejected because the City wouldn't help fund it but the majority of fans were relieved as there is nothing like Fenway Park in the US for baseball.
Then after not winning for 86 years, the new owners were champs within 2 years coming back against their arch rivals in a miraculous way. And they won again in 2007. Sox fans were very pleased with their ownership and the club are still on a record number of sell outs at home. Very astute owners and are not afraid to try new ideas. Will be interesting to see.

I was shocked to read the news personally and hope it'll fall through. The Sox are really equivalent to City; heart-break team with a huge fan base that has just recently come good.

If anyone knows ANYTHING about the tortuered history of the Sawk, then you MUST take these guys seriously since they WON TWO championships within the last 8 years. The last time they won sommat beofre then was about 90 years. They had a lot of heartbreak and agony in between...

Does anyone know what % of shares G+H have?

Surely the board can't sell the club underneath them if they have the majority share?
Thats part of the "legal Issues" Apparently Hicks and Gillet gave Broughton full power now they realising they won't make a bean out of it are trying to have him replaced.

Probably be pretty good owners for what is now a midtable club at best.
They sacked the Red Sox coach a week after taking over. Probably not so good owners for Woy.

Woy must have known he was a stop gap, no-one wanted the job as no-one knew who the owners would be or how much they would have to spend. Liverpool were a club in turmoil, and on a downward spiral, no manager with any real aspirations was going to touch them. If the new owners do indeed clear the debts,m and give them (limited) transfer funds then the job suddenly becomes more attractive.

I think Woy will be around until January but not much longer, although if they continue to be as shit as they are currently that may change.

Also have sold out every home game since 2003.

Re: Liverpool Takeover Imminent?

FA rule number 94 (4) states clearly:

No rule shall be enforced against a) Manchester United, b) Liverpool, or c) Arsenal as it would be unfair and bad for football.

There isn't and also the draft is whacky, unlike the NFL/NBA is includes High School kids too(who often choose to go to higher education and thus are redrafted).
