Images from outside the hospital on Sunday show a car enveloped in flames, before burning out.

Merseyside Police confirmed "an incident occurred at around 11am".

"A cordon around the affected area has been established and a number of surrounding roads have been closed," a spokesperson said.

"Emergency services are currently at the scene assessing the situation.


Dont jump to conclusions
 
One person has died after a car exploded outside Liverpool's Women's Hospital with counter terrorism police taking over the investigation.

Another person who has been taken to hospital with serious injuries is not believed to be in a life threatening condition.
In a press briefing, police urged the public to remain calm but vigilant after confirming there had been one fatality.

Detectives said in an update this afternoon they are keeping an open mind as to the cause of the incident.

But out of caution counter terrorism police will be leading the investigation
 
Merseyside Police will have to call in experts that actually solve crimes for this one.

They are right to cover all bases before being able to confirm a possible cause.
