Liverpool terror attack

I don’t think you want to get into a game of ‘Atrocity Top Trumps’. Suffice to say the British Empire was not run as an overseas charity.

Our past and recent involvement in the Middle East means we will be a focus. Burma is not. Reality is a woman and all that.
I was pointing out that it is too simplistic to say it is all about British imperialism. The US is the main target and I don't recall them being very British, not after they threw our tea overboard.

Britain seems like a soft target for terrorists. The Atlantic Ocean is a powerful barrier to entry, which is why we look very closely at who crosses the southern and northern borders. Canada is an even larger, and often more welcoming and liberal, melting pot than the US. That feels like a threat to many Americans.

Iran was doing well when Mosaddegh was in charge nationalising oil which USA and UK wanted to keep so they intervened and put the Shah dictatorship in charge so they could still have direct access to the oil, and it was a brutal regime. Khomeini was a response to US meddling, and they reaped exactly what they sewed.
That is twisting the truth to fit what you want it to be. Yes the U.S. and U.K. supported an internal coup but we didn't put the Shah in charge, he took over after power was retaken. His father was the previous Shah. This was many years before the revolution

Their politics is about power. Persia was affluent, modern, fancy cars/clothes and the Shah was a friend of Britain and the U.S. Then Ayatollah Khomeini started preaching his anti west rhetoric, suddenly he is the big cheese and Iran was born.
He became one of the most feared and powerful leaders in the Middle East. Other zealots saw and copied.
It's quite funny but back then Saddam was our bessie mate. The mighty Iraq fighting for freedom and justice against the terrorist Iraq.
Not really I think Churchill once send in relation to Germany invading Russia " If Hitler invaded hell I would at least make a favourable reference to the devil in the house of commons*

Are you a professor of Middle Eastern studies? :)

You seem to have been posting a few things today that don't stand up to even the slightest of scrutiny.

The background of the 1953 coup was Mossagegh's desire first to audit the Anglo-Iranian oil company and then when they refused to play ball, his plans to nationalise it.

Well, if you’re going to ignore the last 50 odd years of US involvement in the Middle East then knock yourself out. The US was labelled the ‘Great Satan‘, invaded Iraq, bankrolls Israel and ratted out on treaty they signed with Iran, and you’re puzzled why no one is attacking Burma?

I‘m not even arguing the merits or the rights and wrongs here, just pointing out the reality.

Nobody is attacking Burma because the Islamic State view the Muslims there as infidels anyway. They hate other Muslims just as much as us.

The UK and the West grabs the headlines when a bomb goes off, which shouldn’t be the case but it is globally.

Which event most historians now say never happened. Was a piece of anti British propaganda. Restore the colonies!

We didn’t demonise Irish Catholics at all in the 60s, 70s and 80s -that simply didn’t happen to any significant degree.
Yeah, it did. I was spat at and punched on public transport in the 80s because of my Irish accent. Luckily I'm built like a brick shithouse and have a terrible temper. The cowardly cunts didn't try it twice. And both my mum and dad were told to "go back home, Micks".
