Liverpool Thread 2011/12

Re: Liverpool Thread 2012

They now need a genius who can achieve Top 4 without spending much money. (Their owners are not rich when compared to the Sheikh and I doubt they want to go into huge debt. They also have a new stadium to finance, which they really need to grow revenue.)

Anything less, and the fans will be up in arms. They will not be nearly as tolerant of failure with whoever the new guy is, even if he does slightly better than KD did.

Whoever takes this job on will earn his salary, that's for sure.

Re: Liverpool Thread 2012

Another big summer for the. Personally I think they need a miracle to get the top 4 after dalglish blew FSG's investment on shite

Re: Liverpool Thread 2012

The hilarity of any new manager trying to offload Carroll, Downing, Adam and Henderson is going to be wonderful.

Re: Liverpool Thread 2012

I can see them struggling, I read the Andersred blog on Liverpool and he pointed out they were on a £26m loss in their last accounts with no european football next year and a new stadium to finance. Their sponsors are going to go in with low offers on renewals if they don't get CL and I wonder how many more "Warrior" deals they'll be able to find if they don't get a CL place.

Their team are on CL wages with no CL income..........

The team needs refreshing all over the place and they need a guaranteed top class striker which is £40m (who could even go on to be a flop if they are unlucky). The amount of money they have spunked on failures and bog-standard average players is huge having let go some absolute class players like Mascherano, Alonso and Torres (at one time).

Gerrard is 31, Bellamy 33 soon, Rodriguez 31, Kuyt 32 soon, Carragher 34. Adam, Henderson, Downing, Joe Cole and Carroll are shite. Enrique, after a good start, has been a disappointment.

I would say they only have 3 "top" players left, Gerrard, 'the racist' and Reina (maybe add Lucas to that as he's come good in the DM role). The rest are decent PL players, nothing more. They've got a bunch of kids who may (or may not) make it who they've had to play as cover which is a bit scary.

They are going to struggle to keep hold of of their decent players, especially if they have another shite season. Let's see how keen Reina and Suarez are on their 'istree if they finish mid table again next season. They need a minor miracle to get a CL place as the current top 6 will strengthen and they have to get >20 points than they did last season to be in with a shout at a CL place.

They aren't going to disappear, similar to the rags because of their global revenue, but I can easily see them doing a "Villa" and scrapping for a Europa place regularly.

Re: Liverpool Thread 2012

Thing is last season they invested in players without distraction of EL, meaning all their efforts could be ploughed into getting top four place and maybe a cup, they got the cup but not top 4. Unless owners are going to give new man similar funds for this season where they do have EL can't see them getting that 4th spot. Newcastle and Everton have a better chance. Everton in particular if they could start well.

So they've got rid of Comolli, the Communications Director, King Kenny and are supposedly looking at getting rid of the MD Ian Ayre as well. But apart from that they've opted for stability at senior level. And they haven't got the new stadium yet so it's all clearly going according to plan.

Looking at RAWK it's starting to dawn on the more perceptive ones that they've replaced Hicks & Gillett with another bunch of clueless Yank clowns, rather than the knights in shining armour they thought they were getting. FSG are the new Venky's and Liverpool are the new Aston Villa, with history and fuck all else.

I was also reading the Andersred blog the other day. He's a rag but an extremely financially clued-up one (I think it's his brother that has just taken over Rangers) and he did a piece on LFC a couple of weeks ago that basically said they've used all the cash FSG put in, aren't generating a surplus and would therefore have to go into debt to fund further large scale player purchases.

But it's definitely going to be their year next year as they're only 2 players short of a title and CL winning team.

You sound like someone straight out of RAWK and I find your opinions to be incredibly daft. FSG have taken the exact same approach our Abu Dhabi owner have in this entire takeover process. Give the fans what they want. Whether it was old guard or new guard. Supply the club with funds to succeed. Track closely.

As for Liverpool going into debt, this is laughable in the same pretense of Manchester City being in debt. The term "debt" is relative in the pretense of its own decided outcomes. FSG are a wealthy and well-connected group. Whose advisors have more experience in successful sporting ventures (even those outside of USA) than our own owners.

FSG are the new Venky's? When was the last time the Venky's invested 100 mil and maintained the likes of Steve Kean through relegation? FSG are being proactive. Like you said yourself, they are one or two players away from the top 4. But judging by Dalglish's history in the transfer market can you honestly say he's capable of making the right buys? This is the man who spent 35 million pounds on Andy Carroll.

I think you've rushed to judgement. I actually think a lot of people on here have. This was an incredibly smart move from above.

What the fuck is this? An attempted clarkie? I've never read anything so fucking stupid in my life.

FSG are not like ADUG. FSG flung in £100m (which Dalglish & Comolli largely pissed away) and appointed a manager who was years passed his sell-by date in order to "give the fans what they want" as you put it. They don't have unlimited resources and if you read Andersred's blog of May 4th, you'll see that LFC are cash negative. So to fund further squad building on a major scale FSG will either have to lump more in or take on debt. And the fact they've negotiated larger credit arrangements with their bankers suggests very much the latter.

I compared them to Venkys (somewaht tongue in cheek I must say) because they are equally clueless whatever you (as a fellow American I assume) think. If they were that clued up they certainly wouldn't have appointed Dalglish. ADUG, on the otehr hand, clearly understand where they're going and how to get there

The term "debt" is relative in the pretense of its own decided outcomes.
What????????
