Congratulations to Manchester City on your title. Enjoy it! You are now the dominant team in England and you corrected last years abberation. You were great to watch, your manager and captain are top class--and I can honestly say there is not one single player you have who would be considered a mercenary, a **** or an asshole--just lots to like all around :)
Enjoy it and I hope we can make it tough for you next season. There'll be season recaps and reflections, but as a Liverpool fan, here's my initial reaction to the end of the season:
Much will be made of Rodgers but:
1. Relatively young team.
2. Never were going to 14 in a row. Unfair to use that as the standard.
3. Remember the tight dearly defensive 1-0s.
4. It was more more psychology than tactics in the end (other than palace after 3-1).
5. Poor squad caught up with team. Never gad game changers off bench.
It's unfair to rain too much criticism on him given that his coaching and tactics had Liverpool top of the table at 36 games in the first place, do SOMETHING worked a little over the season.
Next year I'd like to see a better bench. We can't be looking there and seeing Alberto, Aspas and Moses. We need full-backs and attackers in the final third that can finish. Those are our two top priorities--I'm not happy to see us being linked with Lallana, we don't need him!
Also I'd like to see Rodgers more measured in his public talk. For example it is unseemingly calling for 100 goals I mean Palace and Newcastle have professional pride too. Also wish Rodgers would tone it down on the "city and their money" talk. It comes across as too self-congratulatory, and we're hardly destitute ourselves. We need to get on with it and buy well and then just play. Another thing he does is talk about tactics in way too much detail. Why do your opponents scouting for them?
But overall great season and it IS mission accomplished. Most of the XI still have upsides. Easily a B+ season (less defensive errors would've made an A). We needed to qualify for UCL at all costs. That was the goal entering into the season--nothing more than that really. I am proud of the team and of the guys. I feel bad for Gerrard and desperately hope we can get him one last trophy next season.
