What annoyed me most about the media love in with Liverpool was the complete airbrushing out of the match analysis of Henderson's dangerous tackle on Nasri and the Skrtel handball in the area from the resultant free kick (anyone remember the outrage following NDJ's legitimate tackle on Ben Arfa).
However there was some karma as apparently Henderson was a big miss for them in the following three games.

That tackle didn't count cos JH is such an honest guy and he didn't mean to do it - or some sanctimonious shite like that....

Thing is we all know what Liverpool fans are like. They think they have a god given right to be 1st next season so if Rodgers gets them anywhere other than 1st they will start kicking off and he will get the sack.

Valid point.....is anywhere less than 2nd next season gonna be a failure? I know they're in the CL and all that but Gerrard is talking like they'll be title contenders again, so would 4th be a failure for this lot?

The beauty of it all is they have all summer to sit and think where it all went wrong and cry into their beer in the gloom of an indoor bar, whereas City fans will be basking in the sunshine on the beach, reflecting on another great season and two trophies in the cupboard.

Like the rags a couple of seasons ago it will hurt all the more because in their own heads they had it won,t-shirts printed, victory parades arranged until they fucked it up and were overtaken by a team of ice cold professionals who just kept on winning.

Enjoy your summer La!

There's an awful lot of disrespect and unadulterated abuse aimed at Liverpool FC and their fans on here.

Keep it up.

Yep totally deserved. The last few weeks of the season reminded the whole country of how insufferable they used to be when they were at the top.I had almost forgotten their fans cheering when they helped relegate us with a 2-2 draw at Maine Road as well.

The attacking of City fans who showed them nothing but respect on the anniversary of Hillsborough in a game they WON,then attacking Chelsea fans too when they lost, their cringworthy celebrations before they had won a thing and the gobshite Rodgers stupid speeches all mean they deserve all the shit coming their way, long way it and their trophy drought continue!

I've done my share of PMSLing at them after they fucked the league up. They behaved, as a body of fans, like a bunch of cunts of the highest order when they thought they had won the league. They got their comeuppance and it couldn't have happened to a more deserving bunch, given the way they were.

I'm bound to say though that with the dawn of the new season it will in my view be time to move on. They will probably not challenge for the league, because playing in Europe will probably sort them out. They will be top 4 rivals, but not serious title contenders.

I think there is a wider issue, though about how Liverpool Football Club is perceived by fans of other clubs, ours included. The problem with the way they made so much of Hillsborough is that the 25th anniversary of Hillsborough will be followed by the 26th anniversary. To my mind there is a very real risk that Liverpool and their supporters will find out next season that they lost a lot of goodwill when they used - or were perceived as using - the memory of the 96 victims of a tragedy that should not have happened to build momentum for a title challenge.

I do not think it is a coincidence that we played them away on the weekend that fell closest to the 25th anniversary - after the Munich anniversary I think we are the one club whose respect on the anniversary of Hillsborough could be pretty much guaranteed. And nothing more needs to be said about how Liverpool's fans 'thanked' us on the day for that respect. It pains me to say it but if the same sort of tribute was paid next season I would be far less confident than I was this year about the reaction it would get from City. There was a fund of goodwill on City's part towards that club and I fear that they gambled it on a title challenge and lost.

I hope I am wrong about this. I really hope the City fan base (as a whole) is able to distinguish between on one hand the respect that should be shown for the fans who died at Hillsborough and the injustice their families have suffered, and on the other the derision that is entirely deserved by their supporter base (as a whole) for the way they acted in the last three months of last season. But I am distinctly worried that what has been for a while quite a warm and respectful relationship has been tarnished in a very significant way.
