Just watched a bit of that Luis Alberto they've just signed and I can honestly say our EDS have released better than him.

LFC fan here, come in peace - not to troll etc.

Was reading up on who MCFC would sign and noticed the Liverpool thread, makes amusing reading :)

This comment made me sign up, two reasons - Firstly, who are EDS? Secondly, have y'all read this piece on the next gen series? <a class="postlink" href="http://www.manchestereveningnews.co.uk/sport/football/football-news/man-sized-task-facing-pellegrini-city-4571034" onclick="window.open(this.href);return false;">http://www.manchestereveningnews.co.uk/ ... ty-4571034</a>

Oh, and lastly...sligthly off topic...I do like that Guidetti lad - do you think he'll break into your team with Pellegrini focussing on bringing youth through?

Cheers

Jimi

The EDS is our 'Elite Development Squad' replacing the traditional reserve team at our club. While I haven't seen Luis Alberto at all we do have some very promising youngsters in the EDS so if you combine that with blue tinted specs you can see where kiams point came from (I don't know enough about Alberto to comment). Pellegrinis charge of adding more youth into our ranks isn't as mad/hard as it sounds, I'm pretty sure we could see one start against say Hull, Cardiff, Crystal Palace and other similarly struggling teams and it would still be a massive swing in the right direction.

Then as you mentioned their is that Swede on the horizon that is Guidetti who will almost certainly feature this year, likely most of the time from the bench but again he will almost certainly be able to showcase what he can do. Chance are we would of seen him this season had it not been for that damned chicken which I'd like to point out could have been career ending.

Enjoy your stay, I hope my ramblings helped you :)

Cheers for the welcome MC ID, Elite Development Squad well I didn't know that. Certainly will be interested in seeing how City develop their youth players currently not having a single player at the U20 WC or the U21 Euros surprised me when I read that article - that's what makes me thing Pellegrini will have a challenge on to do it.

As for Luis Alberto, quite amusing irony - being it will have been the MCFC scouts we nabbed last year that will have pointed him out to us! I can only judge him based on youtube which is, let's face it, absolutely useless.

Personally feel that now we've got our Transfer Committee we should be making certain that every player we sign has the necessary skills to challenge our younger players for those Sub cameos/cup games.

Don't think Luis will be a starter for us from day one but hope he can challenge the likes of Sterling & Ibe for the first team subs/cup spots. We'd all love him to be another Coutinho though :)

Denis Suarez was on the bench for Spain and Rodwell was called up to the senior squad instead of playing with the U 21.

Scouse Jimi while you're posting what are your hopes for the season and what or your realistic views?

If you use the phrase "this year is our year" I will immediately stop reading.

Haha, I might be a scouser but I'm less deluded than some.

The owners have given Brendan Rodgers 3 years to get back into the Champions League. This season I would hope we challenge for both domestic cups and put up a decent fight for 4th place. Can't see us getting there unless we strike it lucky with our signings and they all turn out to be world beaters.

The LFC forum I post on has some pretty compelling arguments as to why we could make top 4 such as our performances in the 2nd half of last season etc but I can't see it. There is certainly an opportunity but it's very much an outside chance. I put us getting 5th with a cup win this season.

I can say with honesty though that I'm not that fussed for this season as long as we keep playing the way we have been and signing the players we appear to be going for. I stopped going to Anfield during the back end of Rafas reign due to the style of play. I'm back there week in week out now because, whilst we might not win every game, we play some outstanding and exciting football. It's a good time for Liverpool fans in my opinion, feels like the start of a revolution of sorts...though i'm sure it'll be another false dawn ;-)

Lol. I know what you mean.

My mum's fella (she's 75 btw) is a red dipper. Every summer it's the same "this is our year", "just you wait and see", "Rafa/Roy/Kenny/Brendan will get it right" blah blah blah. Come the turn of the year the reality sets in, followed by doom and gloom in the spring. Does my head in. Used to try and have a conversation with him about football but now I just shake my head and laugh. Always brings up the "Istree" shite as well (to the point where all of our family refer to LFC TV as the History Channel). However a quick reminder that we won the FA cup, League Cup and a European trophy before them usually shuts him up.

There's a long way to go before the start of the season, so a lot of it depends on what happens between now and then. Liverpool are making some very good signings, but there's still the possibility that they're going to lose a world class goalscorer. No matter how good your other signings are, that's pretty difficult to replace.

Arsenal only just scraped into the top 4 last season, but I expect them to strengthen quite considerably this season, after about 3 consecutive years of losing their best players.

And Spurs' season depends a lot on whether they keep Bale. I think both Liverpool and Spurs' season will largely be determined by whether they keep their world class players and how they replace them if they do.

The Suarez situation is a funny one, I'm leaning towards the club saying he has to stay (like the spuds did with Modric) Carragher said in his interview with Sky that Luis isn't the type of guy to throw his teddies out of the cot - he's got more of a clue than most having spent 2 years with him.

There's arguments amongst us LFC fans as to whether we are a better team without Suarez which is madness. He single handedly got us through the first half of the season due to our clusterf*ck of a transfer window.

We can replace him if he leaves as long as it's not some mental deadline day situation where we end up paying £40m for Peter Crouch or something ludicrous.

That's not hard.

The key to your season is obviously the Suarez situation. With the general consensus that he will be off somewhere a huge load depends on who comes in and how they could perform from the word go.

Better asking you after deadline day.

We shall see, as RM are the only team to make a "sensible" (or non-sensical as the case is) bid for Cavani, if he goes to Madrid - I think our chances of keeping our Uruguayan nutter/genius will increase massively

Worth also saying that Brendan has just been interviewed on talkshite - he confirmed that the club are in control and Suarez won't be leaving. Cha-Ching :)
