If they're lucky, they'll get one more season out of him, then he'll piss off to a bigger, better club. But I've seen £50m being mentioned as a fee for him. No way is he worth that sort of money.

I never realised Sterling joined Liverpool from QPR in 2010, I thought he was a product of their academy....

Like the rags, every player has been there since birth and plays for free.

Weird logic, isn't it? He left QPR to become the highest paid teenager in English football at Liverpool. Now, Liverpool are surprised because he wants to leave them and become the highest paid 21 year old in English football.
Billy Beane would be proud of him. It's exactly the sort of activity that the whole Moneyball concept promotes. Whilst all of the lip-service and platitudes will get a jolly good airing beforehand, be under no illusion, FSG and their pen-pushing minions at Anfield (though not, obviously, the remaining genuine football people at Liverpool FC) will be as deeply proud of any profit made on the inevitable sale of Raheem Sterling as say, Joe Fagan was in bringing home the European Cup - because that's the mentality backboning Liverpool nowadays. They're a selling club, no more, no less.

Both Sterling and Ibe were 15 when the dippers snapped them up, Sterling cost them circa £5 million in total, Ibe's is "undisclosed".

There's a quite sickening piece by Bodgers on SSN today http://www1.skysports.com/football/...g-benefits-of-brendan-rodgers-early-rejection (sorry, but I want to puke whenever this "man" speaks for some reason).

Since arriving at Anfield three years ago, the likes of Sterling, Ibe, Jon Flanagan and Jordan Henderson have all seen their careers flourish under the Northern Irishman’s watchful eye.

Flanagan is the only real academy product out of the 3 since they've done what everybody else does (including us) and strengthens their youth sides with the best youth products from other academies.

Jordan Henderson already had England International caps before the dippers paid between £16-£20 million for him days before his 21st birthday.

We were in the mix........

Liverpool sign youth international Sterling from QPR

Liverpool have signed highly rated England youth international Raheem Sterling from Championship side Queens Park Rangers for an undisclosed fee.

The 15-year-old midfielder, who had also interested Manchester United, Manchester City, Arsenal and Fulham, will join the club's academy in Kirkby.

"The success of our academy is vital to our future progress," said Liverpool managing director Christian Purslow.

"We have made clear that we will invest in outstanding young talent."

The **** is a figment of his own imagination.
