Liverpool thread 2017/18

UEFA's CL brand and marketing strategy is all about Ronaldo and Real Madrid as there's billions in Asia who'd boost their avldvertising revenues whilst following him.

It would make sense for them to get the dippers to the final this year for the same reason. Only to see their hearts broken by a dramatic last minute penalty scored by a man who'll have done fuck all for the previous 90 mins but will take all the glory himself.

You'd have thought teams would have worked out that defending deeper and not giving Liverpool the space behind their defence to exploit was the way forward. Clearly not. NOT for us or any CL knockout phase team.
Teams worked it out against us by the start of November - yet keep inviting Liverpool to score. You play them like we did against Barca in Dec 2016 or like Utd do every game. Or like WBA and Swansea have.
I fully expect Pep to keep using the same ta tics against Liverpool though I do hope he finally gets a grip and at least uses a double pivot next time.

The answer to your question is probably best summed up by the bolded bit of your post. Teams worked it out against us by the start of November.

Since November - P38 W29 D2 L7
(and 2 of those losses were the B team in dead rubbers)

That's our results since teams worked out how to play us. Not looking great for the teams that worked us out, is it?

For every team that sits deep against Liverpool in the league, about 1 in 4 stops them from winning, about 1 in 8 win themselves. You remember Swansea 1-0 Liverpool, because it's a shock result, it's a funny result, and you forget the other 20-25 games this season where they've beaten teams who sit in relatively comfortably.

So you take the fact that sitting deep against them is actually not very effective, and add that to squads who are not used to, or not capable of sitting back because they in their domestic competitions they are the big fish, you get managers who'd prefer to do it their way.

You can bemoan Roma and Di Francesco playing a high line, but he did it against Messi, and Ousmane Dembele - more than a match for Liverpool's pace and much better players - and won 3-0.

They stopped getting hammered especially at their grounds. Thats the point. Giving Salah acres of space to run into is just suicidal.

Should try doing the 2 mile walk away from the ground when Lazio have just hammered them in their home derby and there's a running battle going on with everyone tooled up. Felt like there was a sheet of ice on my spine.
Aye it's crazy that game. Went to the Rome derby about 10 years ago with a mate. We were stood right next to a tall fence segregating the two sets of fans. About 15 mins to go we suddenly realised we were alone. This was because everyone else had moved away from the fence to get a good throwing angle over the top of it. Looked up and there were bottles and lit flares etc flying over the top of us in both directions. We decided to leave at that point. Outside, the stadium was surrounded by police, all wearing gas masks. Glad we left when we did!

Again your memory is letting you down. Watford are the only team we hammered away from home before November.

And if you count the number of times we've scored 4+ goals, it's happened more times since we got found out in November than it did before.

To be fair, there's a man fighting for his life which makes it a bit different.

Their attack on our bus was unacceptable, but some people mentioning karma, always the victims etc. is a bit inappropriate when someone is in a critical condition in hospital imo.
You reap what you sow, someone could have been seriously injured by a full can of ale being lobbed by those Scouse thugs, (Phil Hughes the cricketer died from a single blow to the back of the neck). Uefa called them the worst supporters in Europe, there's a reason for it. No matter how they perceive themselves in Liverpool they are a set of twats who are responsible for violence. Also Dipper fans with genuine tickets were denied access to the Olympic Stadium in Athens because loads of them got in without tickets, must be the first time they had ever done that though.

There is a difference between United lumping the ball and Liverpool doing it.

The difference is liverpool have a player in salah who at the moment is having a worldie season, take Salah out the team and Firminio, and just like last night showed liverpool are bang average - so no for me they are not a breath of fresh air.

The front three and the tactic to get it up to them asap is masking their flaws - but that mask slipped last night when klopp thought he was being clever in taking them off.

10 years ago? Wasn't 4-2 to Lazio with a certain Serbian left back scoring, was it?

Yes. Fed up of seeing Barca, Athletico, Madrid, Bayern and the likes. The all-action game is entertaining to watch and they have scored the most goals blowing away the opposition. There is also a novelty in watching a different player than Ronaldo/Messi creating the headlines in the CL.

Consider your opinion without taking away Salah and Firmino, and it would resemble mine (of course keeping rivalries aside).

BBC already planting the away leg narrative.

"Liverpool fans fearful of trip to Rome." Scousers ringing up saying they aren't going as they are scared of retribution on innocent people.
Whilst I dont condone any violence, the dippers have brought this on themselves aided and abetted by plod and the club

Last night really highlighted to me how they are a long ball team. It’s basically Leicester all over again.
