You can only beat what's put in front of you, and it's not City's fault that in 11 rounds in total they only faced 6 PL sides - only 2 of which finished in the top half (Chelsea and Leicester) - but you have to consider a little perspective.

City fans might argue that perhaps if other top PL teams hadn't been knocked out themselves so early, City wouldn't have been as likely to be drawn against lower quality sides, which is true. But the likes of United, Arsenal, Chelsea have been involved in a close battle for CL qualification in the league, Spurs signed no players in the summer, and Liverpool clearly concentrated on the league. All of those teams except United also reached European finals, and none of them come close to matching City's squad depth so it is understandable that they went out of the domestic cups earlier.

City have obviously had a fantastic season, but looking back in a few years time I don't think anyone will remember it as such a massive achievement as people are claiming it is right now. It doesn't come close to United's treble for example.

And for anyone worried about a period of City dominance, I don't think Pep will stick around more than 1-2 years longer regardless of any CL ban. They've also regressed since last season; losing more games, registering fewer points and scoring fewer goals in the league. To clarify, they got 100 points last season without any pressure on whatsoever due to such a massive lead. This season the pressure was well and truly on. They had to win 14 games in a row to pip Liverpool by 1 point and still ended up with fewer points than last season. Had there been less pressure on them this season they would've been even further behind last season's tally.

The key spine of their team which has been there since their first successes are ageing and while they may not retire or leave this summer, the likes of D.Silva, Kompany, Aguero, Fernandinho will not be around for much longer. They may be replaced with four £100m players but you can't easily replace their leadership qualities, and there's no guarantee their replacements settle. Big rebuilding period coming up and Pep is soon to get bored or head to Juventus/PSG for his main goal of CL success. Something he's not had since managing prime Iniesta, Xavi and Messi and is something of a point to prove for him on a personal level.
