The population of the Liverpool urban area is 897,218 according to recent data.
If you disregard 15% of this for being too old or young (134,583) and another 30% who would be Everton fans (269,165) you are left with 493,470.
You can not tell me that all that lot turned up along with another 250,000 who had travelled from other parts of the country, we all know it is absolute Bullshit and if the Merseyside police were involved in the calculation then it is nothing but a damn right lie.
They are clutching at straws because our season frankly put theirs in the shade and they are royally pissed off about losing out on the Premier League.
I was discussing this earlier today with a Liverpool fan who drove over from Leeds to watch it. He was working on an assumption of 450,000 absolute max from Liverpool after excluding Everton fans, people with no interest in sport and those who wouldn't/couldn't go for other reasons, meaning at least 300,000 travelling from outside the city.
He was quite incredulous about this figure. He said it was slow going on the final stretch of the M62 and the city was rammed, but he was able to get much closer to the parade than he had expected, especially bearing in mind that large areas of the inner city were closed off. He was quite sheepish about the 750,000 estimate.
