SWP was never a great player but he was very good for us and the best of a bad bunch at a time when we were really shit, loved his commitment and application. He was our shining light. The Chelsea offer of £20m was met with "no way", far too little for a player of his ability, "what about £21m?" Go on then, we'll take it.
The season we sold him, SWP was more than the best of a bad bunch. His goals were frequent, often outstanding and at big moments. He’d broken into the England team and had scored a cracking goal for them. Mourinho ruined him and he never hit those heights again.
