Come on guys, you know that having a key defender out can affect the whole team, meaning you also create less chances and score less goals. Like last season when Laporte and Stones were out for us, meaning Fernandinho had to cover in defence. That affected the whole team, meaning that our goal tally went from 95 all the way down to 102.

Here another

Could have done with Grujic and even Chirivella to tide us over this season

Initiating contact ("clever play") v exaggeration - what is and isn't cheating?

« Reply #567 on: February 15, 2021, 08:21:41 AM »

In many ways I'm proud of the way our team plays. I watch every game and I cannot recall any incident where one of our players "initiates contact." This is the "clever play" Hoddle refers to but it's cheating. No other way of dressing it up, if you deliberately initiate contact with an opponent to make it look like you were the one being impeded then you're cheating. Barnes did that on Saturday, regardless of what Thiago does, Barnes moves his leg down in an unnatural fashion to create contact where it would not otherwise have occured. It's as clear as day.

Salah and Mane have been guilty of a different behaviour which is exaggeration (and they both do it badly - as in they both make it way too obvious when they're doing it). Whether this is cheating is harder to judge. If you're making out there was more contact than actually happened and you weren't really impeded then this too is cheating. If you have been impeded enough to prevent you continuing in the phase of play and need to ensure the referee can clearly see this then it's not cheating.

Maybe Jurgen needs to train contact initiation? Moron does. I'd hate for us to go down this route but we're suffering this season from other teams doing exactly this. The only slight saving grace was when Kane injured both ankles against us, both times whilst he was trying to gain the advantage by initiating contact. Karma.

Yeah, but it means more when one of their defenders is out.
