Liverpool thread 2020/21

Now the dust has settled and everyone has had time to think about it here’s my opinion for what it’s worth . Liverpool and Man City are neck and neck in terms of quality and if day no one is better than the other but the only slight edge Liverpool have. Is their consistency to grind out more games than us which maybe will win them the title this season . Our defence is now top drawer but to go into a new season with 2 injury prone strikers is criminal considering that they actually fielded two yesterday and had one on the bench aswell . If we get this right then we can kick on
PLEASE, don't repeat the line they want to feed us.

They are a "good" team, perhaps VERY good, but their style of play (all over the pitch) asks for help; and they get it; very, very often.

If tactical "fouling" is a major characteristic of our style of play; "tactically being fouled" is a major characteristic of theirs.

I watched the game yesterday but all I could think about was that Elvis Costello song. I think you know which one.

Is that code for cheating (drawing contact)
In a sane world it would be yes. In ours it seems to be a skill to be admired.

Aguero could easily have fallen over after feeling contact against QPR and an iconic moment would have been lost.

Brilliant.

Liverpool were excellent for 25 minutes but it was a very high risk style. Klopp realised that if it became a game played mainly in midfield City would win and might win convincingly, so he played a front four, aiming to win the ball high up and prevent Rodri having possession to play the ball out if/when we won it back. This approach caused us problems while Liverpool's energy levels were high but it only brought a reward because Kyle forgot that Pep doesn't coach tackling! Had he concentrated on blocking Mane's shooting angle instead of trying to win the ball, failing and trying a doomed tackle Liverpool's "courageous" ploy would have failed completely. It never looked as though that front four were going to score from open play and when City began to pick off their long balls missing out midfield their midfield two and back four had the problems: Sterling shot when a simple pass would have given Jesus a simple shot, Jesus did score, KdB shot narrowly wide then missed a penalty and, in the second half Jesus headed wide when he should have scored. I remember last season when City came back from one down at home to Chelsea and Leicester to win quite comfortably and I think this would have been the case yesterday if the penalty, or one of the other chances, had gone in.
