Liverpool thread 2020/21

Anyway, I'm off to see a bit of football on the TV. Sooner we get back live the better and we don't have to listen to the media. I see we've got Everton in the cup. Can't find Liverpool. Oh, nearly forgot. They lose in that so as to concentrate on the league. Should give them a nice break between matches. Don't they play Leicester this weekend. Didn't Leicester play midweek? Surely not , as that would give Liverpool a full week to prepare

Liverpool paid a seven figure fee for Gomez from Charlton. It is impossible for all the kids to come through because each age group has probably 15/20 players so a very reasonable figure would be one every two seasons. I reckon that is possible at City but difficult. I have high hopes for Harwood-Bellis and Luke Mbete-Tabu. McAtee and Palmer could . Liverpool have got nothing. You even took on Joe Hardy (22 now) from City to pad out your kids
I didn’t take anybody from City. You’re conflating my supposed views with LFC recruitment policy. I have no idea why we took him, perhaps we thought we could make something of him. Obviously that hasn’t panned out. Now your second sentence I can get behind. If I’m honest here, I expected one of the youth full backs to be able to step up. It’s been a problem area that’s had eye watering money committed to it but not once did a young full back look Iikely to bridge that gap. That’s not his fault but it seemed madness to spend that sort of money without having any kind of organic resource. Again, I’m not arsed about the money, spend what you want, but it just seems madness that there was nobody even half ready over a sustained period.

Have a good evening, mate, I enjoyed our discussion even if it wasn’t always plain sailing!

If you’ve played and managed before then I can’t understand your take on this unless it was solely to cause a row. And I’m aware that some of the kids have represented the firsts. My point is that a club with such supposed academy potential rarely if ever promotes them to first team regulars. That’s up to them and it looks to be serving them well but I think even the most diehard City fan would want to know why there isn’t more coming through? Of course not everyone can be Foden but I would have expected to have seen a couple more.
You are not looking close enough, there are players coming through but our first teams standards are very high so a lot of them are getting cup games. You have heard of Jadon Sancho? We also had Brahim Diaz who Real Madrid snapped up and Eric García who Barcelona want to snap up.

I’m aware of all those players. To use Sancho as an example, should he still be there? Should he have had more of an opportunity at first team level? And I know plenty have had dribs and drabs of the firsts but not for anything major on a regular basis. Of course the squad talent levels are ridiculously high but that’s no barrier to a fearless youngster - Foden proves that. There are players with much more experience than him, Jesus for example, but he’s left him behind now.
