Came across this account by Peter Doherty of a game in the War League North Cup against Liverpool at Anfield in 1944 which finished 2-2 after extra time, "... once again we had to fight it out to a finish. Both teams were completely leg weary, and another goal seemed highly unlikely. But as Jimmy Heale and I were heading the ball wearily to each other across the Liverpool goal mouth, Alec Heard suddenly nipped up and cracked the ball through for the decider. We were climbing gratefully into the bath while the Liverpool team, still out on the field, were claiming for offside!"
