The issue isn't whether one identifies as a Manc more than being English, that's perfectly fine, no problem there, the problem arises if it defines you.

That's the problem lots of scousers have.

If being scouse defines you, then there's an us and a them, insiders and outsiders. The insiders mutate into a cult and the outsiders look on with feelings that range from amusement to disgust.

Personally I wouldn't want the çunt anywhere near us, he's spoiled goods. He's a cheating, diving fucker who wouldn't get anywhere near the amount of penalties for us as he does with the dippers.

I hope he stays where he is and demands the biggest wage packet that odious club have ever been forced to shell out, causing widespread unease amongst the players: simmering tensions in the dressing room leading to players going on strike - if ever a club deserved a tumultuous and violent breakdown within their ranks it's that festering bucket of stagnant pus they have the nerve to call a football club. Let both them and their malignant counterparts the rags both end up as mere footnotes in the annals of history, a blemish on the good name of this country and all its citizens (see what I did there?).
I agree. Bit it wouldn't harm us if Pep said he's a player he'd like then let the Dipperpool Echo and the local ferals do what they do best in Scouse.

I've never heard one person say that in my whole life as a Mancunian.

I wonder if he would say, by the same yardstick, that if your grandparents came here from Nigeria or Pakistan or Hong Kong you aren’t English?

Can’t see any logical distinction between the two

Many of us, if not most of us, have at least some non-English ancestors. It isn't remotely unique to Scouserpool, or even unusual.

Consider my maternal granddad. I never knew him, but according to reports he was about a gnat's dick away from being an Orangeman, at least in his attitudes. Yet I have found he was descended from two Irish Catholics who were married in a Catholic church in Dublin in the early 1800s. Which is pretty Irish by any standards.

I myself am undoubtedly English (albeit northern English) by culture, but I have an absolute shit ton of Welsh and Irish blood and, going further back some Scottish. (To say nothing of some very posh Europeans.) But again, this is nothing special. I suspect 99% of you out there would say the same if you checked out your ancestry.

The scousers just get off on pretending they are something special and unique. It's just another form of pernicious nationalism, like the Nazis claiming to be herrenvolk. Nothing more, nothing less, and it's fucking pathetic. Especially when their 'culture' comprises mostly nicking hub caps and throwing missiles at coaches.

Very true. Almost all of us have non-English ancestors if you go back far enough. My grandfather was 18 months old when his parents brought him here from Ireland. (I checked this out for passport reasons having always been told he was Irish.) It has not bearing on my sense of identity whatsoever, other than to know that two of my eight great grandparents were from Ireland.

I have no problem with anyone referring to their forebears' origins as part of their own identity and cultural background. But to say 'if your grandparents/parents were immigrants you aren't English' is exactly what the National front said about (for instance) children born to Jamaican parents who had moved here in the 50s or 60s.

And we know what motivated them.
