Already happened. I shit you not but I saw a Liverpool fan on Twitter last night claim that the Parisians who jibbed in were dressed in Liverpool shirts!

As for the other bit that I've bolded, this is bang on and as fair an appraisal as you can get. I, and many other City fans, were on the receiving end of unwarranted police brutality in Madrid a few years back, as has been the case with many other clubs, and I can't deny that there have been loads of similar stories regarding the French police towards English club fans down the years* so yeah, no doubt some innocent law-abiding Liverpool fans were targeted. But it's also clear that ticketless fans and fans with forged tickets also added to the chaos and arguably contributed to genuine ticket-holding Liverpool fans being locked out of the stadium. Do people seriously believe that every ticketless Liverpool fan just stayed in the fan park to watch the game?

*I will add that luckily, my one and only experience with the French police around a football match was actually a very positive one. It was at Lyon in the CL in 2018. City fans were being encouraged to get the dedicated buses to the stadium, but me and a mate decided to get the tram. It was full of Lyon fans and there wasn't any trouble but when we got off at the stadium, we realised that we were at the wrong end of the stadium. Turns out that there were another 3 or 4 blues on the same tram. Lyon had a pretty bad reputation for football violence and the police saw that we were City fans so politely suggested that they should escort us round to the away section. They were seriously mob handed but were as good as gold.
its all about attitude, I guess you and the other blues were not shouting & screaming at the french police or abusing the french fans?

Ever since the Toxteth riots in the 80s the establishment has treated the scousers very gingerly. It’s almost as if there has been a concerted effort to keep them sweet. That’s my opinion and I’m sticking to it.
It’s more likely over-compensation for a certain earlier disaster. Not sure if we’re allowed to mention it. Apologies if not.

Firstly, there will be no doubt that many fans will have turned up (inadvertently or otherwise) without the legitimate means to enter the ground. The supporting narrative is too strong for that not to be the case. The authorities have to respond to something like that on the spot. As things develop. Inaction isn’t an option. A strident response seems proportionate given the associated risk of not reacting.

If South Yorkshire Police had deployed the same approach as the French police on Saturday, then Hilsborough most likely wouldn’t have happened, as supporters wouldn’t have been let into the ground at that fateful time.

The safety of those in the stadium has to be paramount, and history has proven that one wrong decision by the authorities in that situation can cost many lives. That has to underpin any decision made on the spot.

Liverpool fans referencing Hillsborough in the context of Saturday night would do well to remember all the above.

I’ve been in a right sulk since we got knocked out by Madrid more so for selfish reasons as I had everything booked, gutted was an understatement. I know hindsight is a wonderful thing but I’m kind of glad we didn’t go now. The trip over alongside them Scousers would have been horrendous , I’m not sure we would have beaten them either . Madrid we’re superb last night and played with balls and defended really well.
If it's any help bud just flown in from Brussels with a plane load ,paid £2 for the flight was worth £10k :+)

While you would believe that thought would be paramount in the minds of their support, unfortunately their arrogance and complete lack of self awareness means it's completely lost on them.

Genuinely,they are a different breed.

Very good points.

With this in mind, someone on here yesterday said that Ian Byrne - MP for Liverpool and West Derby - said the police should've opened the gates on Saturday night. Now I don't know for sure whether Ian Byrne definitely did say this but if he did, in light of what happened at Hillsborough, and given that he has been heavily involved with the Hillsborough justice campaigns, it's a truly staggering suggestion to make.

If this is correct what the French police are saying then surly they will have proof of counterfeit tickets.

The people who are roundly criticising the actions of the French police against innocent fans with bona fide tickets have no idea of the reasoning behind that approach, but it’s likely down to the number of attendees without legitimate tickets, some of whom were already in the stadium.

In fact, I’d be amazed if that wasn’t the case.

Maybe he was a bit absent minded as he's busy preparing the 'Hillsborough' lessons for us all.
