Maybe FSG are doing this so they don’t spend any money pressure of the manager team then in 12 months time FSG will say we had no takers so we not selling now..

Here's the full "official" statement apparently to the Athletic:

There have been a number of recent changes of ownership and rumours of changes in ownership at EPL clubs and inevitably we are asked regularly about Fenway Sports Group’s ownership in Liverpool.

FSG has frequently received expressions of interest from third parties seeking to become shareholders in Liverpool. FSG has said before that under the right terms and conditions we would consider new shareholders if it was in the best interests of Liverpool as a club.

FSG remains fully committed to the success of Liverpool, both on and off the pitch.

But the sources also say there's a full pitchbook which -- you figure -- the sources have seen, that contemplates a full sale, not just sale of a stake.

Ah they skint they want money for a %

Over to Orc! Sorry, RAWK.

You can just feel the disappointment and pain over today's events coming from Norway, Ireland, Wales, the Far East, etc. The vast majority of Liverpool itself, full of Everton fans, will be happy.

The FSG thread on RAWK is blowing up. In-fighting, bickering, accusing fans of not being real fans and plenty more. They’re absolutely shitting themselves they could just become what they claim to hate.

For any lurking scousers, peek-a-boo, you fuck you!!
Locked now, nobody on RAWK is allowed an opinion!

What could be the reason for FSG needing to sell the club? Anyone with a qualified guess?

Are they losing money? I don't think so, so they must be in need of funds for something else. Debts? Other investments?

Just seems a bit unexpected to me.

The CL draw against Real Madrid tipped FSG over the edge.

According to the BBC report the club "would consider new shareholders" but that FSG "remains fully committed to the success of Liverpool, both on and off the pitch".

Doesn't sound like they are selling but looking for more investment or am I reading it wrong?

If it’s a country buying us, I’m done. Can just about stomach an independent billionaire but I won’t support a club that’s used for sportswashing.
We're unlike all other Clubs in that we would protest against a country purchased us and that alone is enough to put most of the bastards.
